For anyone who stares blankly before drifting off whenever anybody mentions “Saturday morning cartoons“, you’re probably too young for this story. But, needless to say, this clip of an actual coyote going after an actual roadrunner, has captured my heart and will be played on repeat for the rest of the weekend.
Twitter user Michael Thomas Bogan, who is also an assistant professor at the University of Arizona’s School of Natural Resources and the Environment, posted a video last week that appears to show him capturing an elusive roadrunner in hot pursuit by a wily coyote (sorry, I had to) in a scene straight out of Looney Tunes.
The drama was captured on the Santa Cruz River in downtown Tucson on May 9. via CBS Detroit:
“There is literally a coyote chasing a roadrunner. I can’t believe it. That is a straight up cartoon,” Bogan is heard saying in the video.

Michael has reported seeing roadrunners and coyotes along this stretch of land many times in the past, but apparently never at the same time. As expected, the roadrunner escaped unharmed, leaving the coyote to head back to the ACME drawing board.
Let’s all bask in the wondrousness of animated nostalgia and catch up on some of Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner’s greatest hits:
