Jennifer Lopez And Alex Rodriguez Aren’t Buying The New York Mets After All

This is no doubt going to be heartbreaking news for anyone who was eagerly anticipating what it would be like if Jennifer Lopez owned the New York Mets. Me personally, I pictured Mr. Met in a sexy pinstripe thong, whipping himself around a stripper pole while JLo belted out an extra-sexy version of the national anthem. That’s definitely not something that will ever happen, because The New York Post is saying that JLo and Alex Rodriguez have ended their quest to buy the Mets.

JLo and A-Rod were working with an investment company to secure financing on the purchase of the Mets because they saw it as a big business deal and A-Rod was interested in working with the players. But The Post says that negotiations fell through when they realized that the Wilpons family, who owns the Mets through their 65% ownership of the company SNY, were reluctant to sell. The Mets reportedly lose money as a team, but SNY – which broadcasts Mets games – makes a ton of money. In order to buy the Mets, JLo and A-Rod would have to also buy out their 65% stake of SNY. Between them, JLo and A-Rod have a reported net worth of $700 million, but sources say that unless you’re a billionaire, you’re not going to get the Mets.

And they did reportedly have a billionaire on their side. JLo and A-Rod had partnered with Long Island biotech billionaire Wayne Rothbaum to secure the money for the potential purchase. But Wayne was only interested in the Mets if he could get it at Forever 21 prices. I know that Forever 21 has nothing to do with this story, but it was starting to get way too sporty for me.

A-Rod and Wayne started butting heads over who would have more control over the team. So the deal is one, two, three strikes out.

“The Rothbaum thing soured fast,” a source familiar with the J-Rod/Rothbaum relationship told The Post. “He was not their first choice, but he was the first to agree to next steps.”

There is a small chance that A-Rod and JLo could still pick up the team for cheap. The Post says that it’s hard to place a value on any MLB team while they’re all under COVID-19 lockdown. If the lockdown goes on for a really long time, the value might drop, which means the purchase price will drop, and then we might get to see Mr. Met on that pole after all.

In other JLo and A-Rod news, E! News says that they have indefinitely postponed their summer wedding in Italy.

“They have been struggling for weeks over this decision, but with no return to normalcy in the near future, the couple felt postponing the wedding was the safest and smartest choice,” the insider reveals. “Guests have recently been notified that the wedding will not be happening in late summer as anticipated.”

The source adds that JLo and A-Rod will eventually have the wedding of their dreams, just when the timing is right. So we’ll see what happens after the COVID-19 lockdown is lifted. And if they cancel it again, that’s when someone can ask, “Why? Was A-Rod caught in someone else’s dugout again?“.
