Open Post: Hosted By The Chaka Khan/Shaka Zulu Mix-Up On “Jeopardy!”
Jeopardy! is great because Alex Trebek is wonderful and it’s fun to watch people purposefully guess the wrong answer to things. Well, defending champion, Sarah Jett Rayburn, gave us one of those perfect moments when she confused the legendary Chaka Khan with the Zulu warrior Shaka Zulu. Easy mistake: they have the same illustrious careers and cultural impact.
The funniest thing about this to me is the category was: Zulus. So like…? Sarah didn’t even say the word “Zulu”! The Grio reports that the $2000 answer was:
“Here, as on each September 24, Zulus celebrate the holiday that was named in honor of this warrior leader of the early 1800s.”
Sarah pushed her buzzer with rapid speed and shot out the answer she knew was going to get her an even bigger lead in the competition. Except it didn’t, because she blurted out, “Who is Chaka Khan?” And Alex said, “Nope.” Chaka Khan might be every woman but she is not a Zulu leader from the 1800s. Such a clear mistake didn’t cost Sarah the game. She won with a two-day total of over $39,000, but Twitter did make fun of her answer:
Chaka Khan did not go through the fire, to the limit, to the wall, for a chance to be mistaken for Shaka Zulu chile 😫😫😂😂 https://t.co/hdK6Mp0Asx

This contestant on #Jeopardy confused Chaka Khan with Shaka Zulu.
Even more funny since they showed a picture as the clue. pic.twitter.com/7bJlXwjv7T

Slipping up on Jeopardy and saying “Chaka Khan” instead of “Shaka Zulu” is honestly the most glorious mistake. I fully get it. Who among us is not always thinking about Chaka Khan?

I love it when she realized how bad she fucked up and looked up in shame. God can’t help you now! I feel for you!
