“The Young & The Restless” And “Bold & The Beautiful” Are Running Out Of New Episodes Because Of Coronavirus

My grandmother is about to be so disappointed. The Young & The Restless and Bold & The Beautiful will run out of new episodes this week, but they’ve got a plan. Starting Monday both series will air repeats. Fear not, they’re themed repeats, which I guess is better.  Besides, the same shit happens every week on soap operas. People are always dying and coming back to life, so many will not even notice that they’re repeats!

Deadline says that both shows had a ton of episodes loaded and ready to go before the coronavirus shutdown. They had four to six weeks worth of episodes saved up, but they’re running out and the last new episode will air on Thursday. After Thursday, CBS will air “theme weeks” full of repeats. Some episodes will focus on the Y&R legend, Genoa City matriarch Katherine Chancellor (the late Jeanne Cooper), and others will be dedicated to early performances from classic Y&R stars: Eric Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott, Peter Bergman, Tracey Bregman, Doug Davidson, Jess Walton and of course the recently deceased Kristoff St. John.

Meanwhile, Bold & The Beautiful‘s first theme week will be “Escape to Monte Carlo”:

As part of the themed week, two documentary-style “making of” episodes filmed on location in Monaco will air Monday, April 27 and Tuesday, April 28. Neither episode has been seen before on CBS, and both feature rare, behind-the-scenes footage of cast and crew (including executive producer Bradley Bell). Also, as an early kickoff to the theme week, on Friday, April 24, B&B will air the Monte Carlo-themed episode in which Forrester Creations and Spectra Fashions face off for a fashion showdown benefiting charity.

Amy Reisenbach, the Executive VP of Current Programs at CBS Entertainment said:

“It’s incredibly fun to offer fans an opportunity to look back at such memorable moments from Y&R and B&B. Both of these shows have extraordinary legacies, and these specially curated episodes are only a small portion of what we hope to be able to present in the coming weeks.”

Stars of both series will give commentary at the beginning and end of some episodes.

I stopped watching soap operas when they got too high-brow for me and stopped being about guys taking their shirts off. Might I suggest that be a theme week? Shirtless Guys theme week? I have some other suggestions: Best Resurrections theme week, Dramatic Falls theme week, Dramatic Falls Through Windows theme week (because that should be a separate category), Kidnappings theme week, Biological Parent Reveals theme week, Courtroom Reveals theme week, Best Explosions theme week, and Sperm Stealing theme week. The possibilities are endless!
