Apollonia Came For Sheila E. On Facebook Over Her Prince Tribute Single “Lemon Cake”

Tomorrow marks the four year anniversary of Prince’s death. I’m pretty sure he’d be disappointed to know that the occasion is being marked by one of his former collaborators, Apollonia, publicly excoriating another former collaborator, Sheila E., on Facebook. I wonder which Prince GIF Prince would use to comment on Apollonia’s assertions that Sheila is a phony who’s desperately seeking relevancy by abusing her association with Prince now that he’s gone, despite the fact that he refused to talk to her the last five years of his life. There are so many to choose from!

According to Rolling Stone, in addition to being featured in the Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince special that airs tomorrow, Shelia has a new single out called Lemon Cake, which is a tribute to Prince. That’s the news that got Apollonia cracking her knuckles and going the fuck in on Sheila on Facebook. For Context, the Linda Perry quote is in reference to her thoughts about Sheila not being included in the 2016 Billboard Music Awards tribute to Prince (though she was included in the BET Awards tribute that same year).

“You are so desperate to be RELEVANT as the brilliant Linda Perry said. Prince refused to acknowledge you for 5 years before his death because of your lies,” Kotero wrote of Sheila E. on Facebook (via Okayplayer). “You can’t continue to fool our Prince fans any longer. Because I AM here to tell you, it’s over. Time for the truth.”

In her Facebook post, Kotero accused Sheila E. of profiting off Prince’s name and trademark, including accusations that Sheila E. held Prince-themed benefit concerts for music schools that never came to fruition.

“Prince was so angry because of all your continuous lies. Your bio filled with lies. He sent you legal letters as you were slandering him. I have copies and will include them in my memoirs. You need to stop using Prince in death. You need to stop using Purple Rain as a vehicle. YOU ARE NOT ON OUR CAST LIST,” Kotero wrote.

Oh shit, it’s about to be a battle of the bios! Apollonia went on to question Sheila’s participation in a “Purple Rain boat cruise,” after their alleged falling out, despite not having been in PR (Sheila did accompany him on the PR concert tour). She also questioned Sheila selling t-shirts with the Prince symbol on them. Apollonia also wants to know “Why did you tell The Revolution April 2016 that YOU knew how Prince died BUT you could not tell them!?!” It’s a lot. You can read all of it below:

It’s so messy, it leaves me unsure which one is the crazy one and which one is full of shit! So I’ve done some independent research. RS says that the title for the single Lemon Cake came about because it was a special treat that Sheila would bake for Prince.

In an interview with Billboard after the release of “Lemon Cake,” “The Glamorous Life” singer said, “One day I mentioned to him that I make a good chocolate and lemon cake. His response was, ‘Oh, I didn’t know you cooked.’ I said, ‘Of course I do. My mom being Creole and my dad Mexican, I better know how to cook.’ The next day I baked a lemon cake. It was love at first sight and one of his favorite things that we would share in the studio.”

Here is Sheila on Good Morning America recreating the cake she says Prince fell in love with.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, there’s no way in hell Prince was eating Sheila’s busted ass upside-down box cake! I, therefore, conclude that Sheila E. was full of shit when she said she could cook! As for the rest, all I can say is …
