Nabisco’s Almost Home cookies!

Almost Home cookies were supposed to taste like they just came out of grandma’s piping hot oven. Okay, that sounds kind of sucio. Let me try it again. Almost Home cookies were supposed to taste like your grandma’s gooey and hot cookie- Okay, forget it. Basically, they were supposed to taste close to homemade (not to be confused with the cookies I make, which are considered HOmade).

Nabisco first served up Almost Home cookies sometime in the 1980s. They were sort of like Keebler’s Soft Batch cookies and came in flavors like Real Chocolate Chip, Iced Applesauce Raisin, Old Fashioned Sugar, Fudge ‘N Chocolate Creme, and Peanut Butter. To really push that “homemade” feel, they came in packaging that totally looked like it was hand-embroidered by somebody’s memaw. And one of the commercials featured a sitcom-like husband and wife who named off the ingredients to show us that you could practically taste the recipe of an Almost Home cookie.

Sadly, Almost Home (which almost sounds like “almost homo,” which is what I considered myself at 13 when I hadn’t fully accepted that I was “total homo“) didn’t do that well for Nabisco and their profits dropped over how much money they spent on promoting it. So if you want a homemade cookie today, you have to make it yourself, or just do my version of an “almost homemade” cookie by filling your eating hole with store-bought raw cookie dough. And it tastes even better covered with the salty tears you’ll let out while crying about the state of everything.
