That’s fucking it! COVID-19 has come for 73-year-old singer and style icon, Marianne Faithfull! Marianne, who has dealt with her fair share of health issues throughout the years, was diagnosed last week after experiencing symptoms. She is now laid up in a London hospital with pneumonia and, according to he ex-husband, John Dunbar, is unable to speak.
According to Rolling Stone, Marianne’s manager, Francois Avard, paints a more positive picture, confirming the news while reassuring fans that she is not yet down for the count.
“Marianne is being treated for COVID-19 in hospital in London,” the singer’s reps said in a statement on Saturday. “She is stable and responding to treatment. We all wish her well and a full and speedy recovery.”
Marianne’s longtime friend, performance artist, Penny Arcade, broke it down a little bit further, claiming:
“Marianne was sheltering in place following the United Kingdom’s order to do so when she developed a cold. Out of caution, she checked herself into the hospital on Monday, where she tested positive for COVID-19. She remains hospitalized after developing pneumonia…I spoke to her last week and she was hiding out from the virus but she has caregivers and someone brought [it] in to her,” she added.
Marianne’s last album, Negative Capability, came out in 2018.
Marianne has survived Hepatitis C, breast cancer, anorexia, heroin addiction, and alcoholism––all while nursing a nearly constant heavy smoking habit, which makes this recent diagnosis a little scary…but if anybody can slap a bitch like coronavirus down, it’s Ms. Faithfull.
Send Marianne some happy thoughts––and catch up on some vintage performances just for the hell of it:
