Soda Pup, the wine-delivering dog!

And suddenly I’m like, “Chikos, WHO?!” (I don’t mean that Chikos since I’m going to need those Cheetos after I get drunk on the wine that Soda Pup here is serving.) Seen above throwing a look that screams, “Drunk, trick, don’t even think of taking these bottles of the sweet nectar without paying up and tipping first,” is Soda Pup, a dog who is the official delivery service for Stone House Urban Winery in Maryland. The world is HELL right now but a wine-delivering dog is the universe’s way of letting us know that not everything is shit.

Soda Pup is the mascot and greeter of Stone House Urban Winery in Hagerstown, MD. But when the shop had to move to pick-up only due to coronavirus lockdowns, Lori Yata, his human and the shop’s co-owner, tells TODAY that he got the sads over not being able to greet customers anymore. So Lori got an idea and came up with a way for Soda Pup to see his fans. She bought a saddlebag online and put Soda Pup to work. Soda Pup then wrote a note on the wine shop’s Facebook page, letting customers know that he will gladly deliver their wine to them in the parking lot. After customers place their order, they drive up to Stone House, call up the shop, and out will come Soda Pup with their goods.

Lori also puts two treats in the bag, so that customers can tip Soda Pup with some deliciousness. Because trick is not doing that shit solely for love and affection.

Stone House is a small business so corona has been messing with their money, but Lori says that Soda Pup has been a draw and that he loves the job too.

“As soon as he sees me pick up his vest, he is at my side. I truly think he loves to have a job. It gets him out to see his friends. People who have never been to the winery come just to have Soda bring out their wine,” she said, noting she’s been getting a lot calls lately specifically about her dog. They give Soda so much love and attention when he gives them their wine, it just warms my heart.”

“Some customers will buy more bottles of wine so their kids can see Soda deliver it. Again, it puts a smile on so many faces, young and old,” Yata said.

When the lockdown is over, 11-year-old Soda Pup won’t do regular curbside deliveries anymore, but he may make special trips for people who are physically unable to get out of their cars (because they’re disabled, elderly, or…drunk?).

If my house, called Stoner House, was anywhere near Stone House, I’d gladly drive over and get some wine from Soda Pup. Although, I don’t need Soda Pup throwing me a judgmental “cheap trash” side-eye when he brings me my order of boxed wine. I already get that from my own dog.
