What better way to capitalize on a global crisis than to bring back the stars of a re-discovered cinematic masterpiece and have them teach you how to wash your hands (if, by the way, your hands aren’t already raw from hourly scrubbing, Kate Winslet probably isn’t going to change your mind).
The cast of Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 film Contagion got together to cut informative videos that feature evidence-based information (so, apparently these videos were not vetted through Alex Rodriguez) about how everybody can protect themselves and limit the spread of COVID-19.
Kate talks about proper hand-washing techniques, Matt Damon speaks about the importance of blocking out the bullshit and listening only to medical experts, Laurence Fishburne stresses the benefits of social distancing and limiting hand-to-hand contact, and Jennifer Ehle, who portrayed a scientist who helps discover a treatment for the made-up disease in the movie, discusses all of the possible vaccination options for defeating this very real coronavirus.
For anybody throwing some side-eye at these people filming in these trying times, an accompanying press release asserts that all of the videos were shot individually by the actors themselves (except Kate, who was filmed by her husband)––no crew. And the scripts were written by medical experts, including a doctor who himself recently tested positive for COVID-19.
The most glaring omission from this series of stars is Gwyneth Paltrow. In the movie, Gwyneth plays Matt Damon’s wife who dies of the disease. Could she not get up off her $20,000 ostrich feathered tuffet and record something? I guess given her history with goop, she’s not a fan of promoting anything that requires a doctor’s approval.
Anyway, take a look at the videos below if you’ve got absolutely nothing to do:
