“Mission: Impossible VII” Had To Shut Down Production In Venice Because Of Coronavirus

Well coronavirus strikes again! I mean, it hasn’t really stopped striking since we first heard about the outbreak of another SARS-like infectious disease which was killing hundreds of people. 2020 is still on track to suck. Now, a swell in cases in Venice, Italy has shut down production on the seventh Mission: Impossible movie. Since Tom Cruise is the size of a baby, his immune system can’t handle this! But seriously, you’d think Tom would be able to use his Scientology powers to destroy the virus for once and for all.

Italy has the most coronavirus cases outside of China, Japan and South Korea (obviously they weren’t using enough antiviral essential oils), and are now dealing with a reported 280 cases. To curb infection and stop the spread, Italian officials have fully shut down public gatherings. President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, has closed all schools, museums, and canceled all public events. There was a Venice carnival going on, but that’s over. BBC says that 50,000 people are on lockdown and cannot enter or leave several towns in Veneto and Lombardy for the next two weeks. But more importantly, what about that blockbuster movie that will make greedy film execs even richer?!!!?

Deadline says that filming on Paramount’s Mission: Impossible VII was also shut down. They were set to film in Venice for three weeks before moving on to the other glorious locations they’re going to film in. But since coronavirus is closing borders throughout Europe, it’s a concern. Paramount said that people working on the movie are going to be sent home until they find out what’s going on.

“Out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our cast and crew, and efforts of the local Venetian government to halt public gatherings in response to the threat of coronavirus, we are altering the production plan for our three week shoot in Venice, the scheduled first leg of an extensive production for Mission: Impossible 7. During this hiatus we want to be mindful of the concerns of the crew and are allowing them to return home until production starts. We will continue to monitor this situation, and work alongside health and government officials as it evolves.”

MI: 7 is supposed to come out on July 23, 2021. No word if this is going to fuck with that release date.

There were rumors that Tommy himself was stuck in a luxury hotel in Venice because of the virus. But Deadline says that he didn’t even make it to Italy by the time they shut down production. Meanwhile, catch Justin Bieber on a plane to Venice, unafraid of coronavirus, thus proving how much tougher and stronger he is than action hero Tom Cruise.
