The Ladies Of “The First Wives Club” Will Finally Be Reunited On The Big Screen

Deadline reports that we’re finally going to get that First Wives Club reunion we were promised a bajillion years ago, only it’s not actually TFWC. Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton will be starring in a movie called Family Jewels in which, instead of having the shraed experience of being first wives, they are more like sister wives who were all married to the same man (unfortunately, not at the same time). It’s more of a first, second and third wives club type situation. Let’s call it The Sequential Wives Club.

According to Deadline:

New Republic Pictures has won an auction for Peter Hoare’s pitch Family Jewels, a multigenerational family comedy that returns Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton back on the big screen together for the first time since the 1996 blockbuster The First Wives Club.

In Family Jewels, Hawn, Midler and Keaton’s characters are forced to spend the Christmas holidays together, along with their kids and grandkids, after the man they were all once married to drops dead in a New York City department store.

OK but what will Elizabeth Berkley get to play? I find it very hard to believe that this got green-lit without her participation. Back in 2015, we were supposed to be getting a different reunion picture with Goldie, Bette, and Diane playing former members of a girl-group who are reunited after 30 years, but I guess that idea was too good. That one was supposed to go to Netflix, but it sounds like the producers of this one think they’re too good for the small screen.

“The chemistry of Diane, Bette and Goldie is unmatched and irresistible, and I’m thrilled to help reunite them on screen for generations of fans,” says Fischer.

“This movie fits perfectly in our plan to finance and produce four to six major studio theatricals a year and puts movie stars back where they ought to be – on the big screen” adds Oliver.

Nevins said “Brad and I always wanted Peter for this project but he was constantly busy.  To our great joy, after the Cannes sale, we were able to get the three of us united. I, and the public, have waited many years for these three ladies to star in another film together.”

I’ve got to be honest, between Bette’s twitchy Twitter finger and Diane’s devotion to Woody Allen, Goldie’s big screen comeback is the only one I’m particularly invested in. Her last starring role was in Snatched opposite Amy Schumer. We can’t be doing Private Benjamin dirty like that! Besides, Goldie taught me how to light a cigarette like a boss.

I still do it like that. #JUSTICE4GOLDIE!
