Kenan Thompson Will Host This Year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner With Hasan Minhaj As A Featured Performer

After Michelle Wolf set the room on fire with her now legendary smoky eye bit at the 2018 White House Correspondents Dinner, the White House Correspondents Association decided to play it safe the next year by inviting historian Ron Chernow to host. Sadly, Ron’s one joke about how many founding fathers it takes to screw in a light bulb (A: While no exact number can be found, section IIV of the Federalist Papers No. 70 under the subheading Governance By Too Few, line 235 indicates that no fewer than 3 and no more than 7 can be considered a quorum adequate to facilitate the exchange of expired filamentary goods therefore the number is no greater than 4) went over like a lead balloon. It was sad for the 8 people who tuned in. So now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the professionals are coming back this year and SNL’s Kenan Thompson will be hosting with comedian Hasan Minhaj back as a featured entertainer.

THR reports:

The White House Correspondents’ Association annual dinner will return to its comedy past, with Kenan Thompson set to host the event Saturday, April 25.

“Kenan and Hasan are two of the most engaged and engaging entertainers in America. I’m thrilled they’ll help us celebrate the role of a free press in our democracy,” said Jonathan Karl, chief White House correspondent for ABC News and president of the WHCA. “We’re looking forward to a lively evening honoring the most important political journalism of the past year.”

Hasan hosted the event in 2017 so he knows exactly what he’s signed up for, which is telling jokes about members of the Trump administration while they pretend they’ve got better things to do but are, for sure, rage watching from the back seats of their limos. And since he and Kenan are both men, they’ll probably be able to get away with it without destroying the fabric of our nation with their incivility and impertinence. I have no idea what Kenan will do, but I’m excited to find out. Maybe he’ll sit in the audience dressed up as various Trump administration officials since I’m sure none of them will have the balls to show up in person. Who doesn’t want to see Kenan in Stephen Miller drag and then suffer through several news cycles with everybody arguing about Whiteface being a thing?
