The “Sonic The Hedgehog” Movie Did Not Flop At The Box Office
In a surprising turn of events, Sonic the Hedgehog did extremely well at the box office over the weekend. The movie stars Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik (am I the only one who didn’t know Dr. Robotnik’s first name???), James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, and the voice of Sonic, Ben Schwartz. And the reviews aren’t as awful as people thought they would be (it has a 64% on RT). Not to mention that Olive Garden’s business probably grew 1000% over the weekend from James Marsden’s character being such an OG whore.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that so far, the movie has made a record $70 million.
Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog made a loud boom at the Presidents Day box office with a three-day domestic opening of $58 million, a record for a video game adaptation. The film’s projected four-day gross of $70 million is among the best showings ever for the long holiday weekend, which coincided this year with Valentine’s Day.
And MSN reports that it did even better than Detective Pikachu did:
It even beat out the video game movie Detective Pikachu, which made $54.3 million its opening weekend.

The Sonic movie started out being a mess. The first design of Sonic freaked out the world with his scary teeth from HELL. So they decided to do a nip and tuck to Sonic to make him look less creepy. This ended up delaying the release of the movie. The outrage and demands from fans redesigning the character paid off, literally. Or the alleged conspiracy paid off. Either or, this was a major win for them and made $70 million more than the world expected it to.
Congrats to Sonic! I guess getting that makeover and changing your entire look worked for you and made you more successful and richer! And unlike Kylie Jenner who did the same thing, you didn’t have to also give your soul to Lucifer to do so (okay, Sonic probably did, but let’s not talk about that right now).
