Mark Ruffalo Might Star In HBO’s Limited Series Based On “Parasite”

Parasite literally JUST won Best Picture at the academy awards so you know what that means: Time for a REEEEEEEMAKE, BABY! What better time to ruin a good thing than immediately after said good thing gets popular. According to Collider, HBO is currently working on a limited series inspired by the movie, and is eyeing Mark Ruffalo to star. The project is still in the early stages but I’m guessing it will be all of the cutting commentary on class, but without all those pesky subtitles and unfamiliar faces. The only silver lining here is that Parasite director Bong Joon-ho and his co-author Han Jin-won will be involved. Vice director Adam McKay is also on board.

Collider reports that things are in very, very early development and nothing has been decided. And Mark is only the most likely person to be cast at this point citing “multiple sources have said that director Bong has reached out to Ruffalo and there is interest on both sides in striking a deal, though official negotiations have yet to begin.” Some more details:

…it’s still very early in the development process, and while there’s no official casting at this time — or even a finished script — multiple sources have told Collider that three-time Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo is being eyed to play one of the series’ leads.

Parasite director Bong Joon ho is teaming with fellow Oscar winner Adam McKay on the series, which is expected to be five or six episodes, and is based on the Oscar-winning script by Bong and Han Jin-won. The film followed the poor but cunning Kim family as they ingratiate themselves into the lives of their wealthy employers, the Park family — with shocking consequences.

Plot details have not been announced and “the characters won’t necessarily mirror those in the film” so who knows what type of role Mark might play. Joon-ho says that he’s “got all these key ideas accumulated from when I started writing the script. I just couldn’t include all those ideas in the two-hour running time of the film, so they’re all stored in my iPad and my goal with this limited series is to create a six-hour-long film.” Frankly, if this show can actually boast “from the mind of Bong Joon-ho”, then I’m all in. Hopefully Adam’s involvement doesn’t mean Mark will have to act through twelve pounds of prosthetics to play Jeff Bezos or something. Actually, on second thought
