Finley, the future Guinness World Record holding golden retriever!
Augie, a golden retriever from Texas, better start doing serious mouth stretches, because Finley here is coming for his Guinness World Record. The Democrat & Chronicle says that Augie currently holds the Guinness World Record for holding five tennis balls in his mouth. And here’s Finley, a golden retriever from Canandaigua, New York, holding six. Meanwhile, I’m like, “Eh, I can put eight balls in my mouth easy,” while looking at this picture of Jake Gyllenhaal, Liam Hemsworth, Jared Leto, and some hot piece.
Finley’s humans, Cheri and Rob Molloy, want him to be crowned the official ball-holding record holder, but it’s a damn process and the Guinness people are making them go through it.
For the last year or so, Molloy said she’s been communicating with the officials at Guinness World Records, hoping to get Finley recognized as the new record holder.
It’s been a challenging process, with strict requirements about video submissions and witness statements that require repeated attempts, but Finley does it often enough that Molloy said she’s certain they’ll get his achievement formally recognized sooner rather than later.
But in the meantime, 6-year-old Finley shows off his skill on Instagram. You know in Clueless when Amber says that her plastic surgeon doesn’t want her doing any activities where balls fly at her nose? This is Finley’s response to that:
Finley has always been obsessed with balls (me too, Finley) and has been known to steal balls from the neighbor’s house. But it wasn’t until Finley was 2 years old that his humans noticed he had a talent for stuffing his mouth holes with tennis balls:
The first three or four are quick, and he picks those up with ease. But for the fifth and sixth balls, he’ll use his paws to keep them in place when he pops them in his mouth.
By the time he’s got all six in his mouth, his cheeks are stretched wide. Some of the balls he’s only got a single tooth on to keep them from falling out. His tail wags furiously when he knows he’s gotten them all.
And when Finley gets them in his mouth, he doesn’t want to let them go:
Never mind that I’m jealous that Finley’s getting more action than me, I bow down to his talents!
