Jennifer Lopez And Roc Nation Reportedly Clashed Over That Border Crisis Statement During The Super Bowl Halftime Show (UPDATE)

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira turned the Super Bowl LIV halftime show into an extravaganzaaaaa. They shook their thangs, brought the memes, worked the pole, and made a political statement about immigration in the U.S. But that last part was a bit iffy for some involved in the show, namely Jay-Z. It’s now being reported that Jay-Z and Jennifer bumped heads over the whole latin-kids-singing-about-being-American-while-trapped-in-cages thing. He wanted her to not do that. But the only thing Jennifer Lopez doesn’t do? Is drive to the Oscars.

Jennifer Lopez’s halftime show is apparently the reason for the downfall of America. Not only did she turn all the female children of America into strippers:

But she is also responsible for the border with Mexico breaking down and the violent cartels from American Dirt flooding in from the South. Or something.

Love B. Scott reports that Jay Z’s Roc Nation tried to stop JLo’s border references. During her portion of the halftime performance, Jennifer brought out her 11-year-old daughter Emme to sing Let’s Get Loud and Born In The USA. Children sang along in illuminated cages and Jennifer wore a Puerto Rican/American flag-combo feather coat. Definitely making some points. And Jay’s team allegedly wanted her to not make them.

Sources say that the border crisis statement was all Jennifer, but the people at Roc Nation, who now run the Super Bowl halftime show, “fought to get her to cut it from her set.” Jennifer did not change her routine despite a great deal of pressure” and sources say:

“Jay himself even tried to personally intervene to convince her, but Jennifer would not be moved away from the idea. Apparently, tensions ran so high between the two camps that Lopez eventually pulled out of joining Shakira for the opening number of the halftime show.”

Apparently Shakira, who is a Roc Nation client, was also told not to appear on stage during JLo’s statement, but eventually she decided to ignore Roc Nation and she played the drums on stage.

This is perfect since the NFL deal went so smoothly and didn’t at all appear like Jay-Z helped The Man gloss over systemic issues while earning millions. Because otherwise, this news would look really bad for Jay. Phewf! I mean, if Jay really wanted Jennifer to not do the statement in her set he should have sent the real enforcer in the family to convince her: Blue Ivy.

UPDATE: Jennifer most definitely did want to stunt on the people responsible for the border crisis, as she posted a behind-the-scenes video whose caption very specifically referenced:

“Other people can try to build walls, keep us out or put us in cages.”

But The Hill says that JLo deleted that pointed part and changed to a more acceptable caption. I guess she finally got Blue Ivy’s note.

Here’s her behind-the-scenes footage:
