Note to anyone planning on nominating Taylor Swift for any kind of award: If she ain’t winning, she ain’t coming! At least that’s what Page Six claims as the reason why Taylor stayed far away from this year’s Grammys. But now there are conflicting reports that are calling these allegations bogus, though the majority of folks are all probably thinking to themselves, “Yeah, that sounds like some shit she’d do”
Days before the Grammys, it was reported that Taylor Swift was going to perform The Man at the Grammys, but quit that bitch at the last minute due to the controversy between the Recording Academy and their ex-CEO Deborah Dugan. Ken Ehrlich, the showrunner and EP of the Grammys, said that Taylor never pulled out of the show, because she was never in. She was asked, but decided not to do it.
Now with the rumors of the Grammys being rigged (a real pearl clutcher, there!), Page Six says that in order for Taylor to grace the stage with her beautiful gowns, she needed a guarantee that when the nominations were called, she’d have a good fifteen seconds to go over her “shock and awe” face before definitely winning an award. And for Taylor, this year she wanted to take home the coveted Song of the Year award since, of her TEN Grammys, she doesn’t have that one. But rather than come to the show and wait it out like the rest of the common folk, Taylor figured that since she’s music royalty, she can get her team to ask the Grammy people if she won or not. And the answer she received guaranteed there would be a blank space in the seat reserved for her during showtime. (Billie Eilish ended up winning that award.)
“[Her team] called and wanted to be assured that she would win the Grammy. And while it wasn’t an explicit demand, they certainly were fishing to find out if Taylor was a winner. It was understood in the conversation that if she’s not winning, she’s not coming to the Grammys,” one insider said.
However, reps for Taylor claim that these accusations are all lies and propaganda.
A spokesperson for Swift said, “I am on the record: These statements by anonymous, unidentified ‘sources’ are absolutely 100 percent false and laughable. She just didn’t go to the Grammys. You guys need to calm down.”
Did you catch that at the end? You guys need to calm down. That’s the name of one of the songs Taylor was nominated for! See, she thinks she’s slick. There was no spokesperson speaking for her, that was Taylor trying one last time to see if they would reconsider and at least give her one award. And if she does come back to the Grammys for the next few years, she’ll probably just sing different versions of You Belong with Me to the Song of the Year award until they break down and finally just give it to her.
