There are teenagers who have no idea what this conversation is about, and that’s because the debate between Sex and the City’s Aidan and Big has been raging on for twenty years now. But Sarah Jessica Parker has finally let everyone know with absolute certainty which side she’s on. Whether you allow this recent information to influence your own belief system is up to you.
So, SPOILER ALERT for a double-decade old television and film series, but Carrie Bradshaw (SJP) picks rich asshole Mr. Big (Chris Noth) over the handsome and sweet furniture designer Aidan Shaw (John Corbett). Is it that obvious whose side I’m on? Carrie gets engaged to Aidan, then cheats on Aidan with Big, then breaks off their engagement and later runs into him in Abu Dhabi in SATC2. Eventually, Carrie settles on Mr. Big. Lots of people would swear on their last Cosmo that Aidan was the perfect man for Carrie, while others firmly believe it’s Big. And then there are some who think she should have ended up with Jack Berger, but we don’t talk about those people.
Us Weekly says that SJP recently called in to a SATC podcast called The Bradshaw Boys, who asked her the question that will never, ever die. Is she on Team Aidan or Team Big? Duh, she’s on Team Big.
“As you can imagine, this puts me in a terrible position. There is a very quick and simple answer: You have to be Team Big or Team John [Corbett]. I guess, only because you can’t tell a story that long and not in the most conventional way kind of root for that ending. And I love Chris Noth so much, and it felt wonderfully and skillfully written by Michael Patrick [King].
I loved Aidan. The best of both worlds is in fact having your cake and eating it too. So I feel like I got both teams. Ultimately, Carrie should have ended up with Big, but it was a delight to mess around before she arrived at that.”
That was a very diplomatic answer. Do not piss off Team Aiden, otherwise you’ll only make half as much money at the box office if Sex and the City 3 ever happens. But with that being said, Sarah Jessica could have gotten twice as much attention if she had played it coy. And playing it coy would have also meant a prime opportunity to be petty. “Team Big? Team Aidan? Who is to say, really. I think I’d have to wait until SATC3 to make my final answer. That is, if a certain blonde on Team Bitch ever lets us make it.”
