Open Post: Hosted By Zooey Deschanel’s ’80s Themed Birthday Party

Zooey Deschanel seems determined to carry her manic pixie dream girl energy into her 4th decade of life. According to E! News, Zooey just celebrated her 40th birthday in the most adorkable way possible; with an Instagram ready, ’80s themed birthday party! However, I sense a dark secret lurking in the background.

Naturally, Zooey’s boyfriend, Property Brother Jonathan Scott, was there. The party was hosted by his sister-in-law Linda Phan. You know you’re doing it for The Gram when you only invite 6 people, you’re related to 5 of them, and everybody has access to the HGTV costume closet.

“HBD to the ZD,” Linda Phan, who is married to Jonathan’s twin brother and co-star Drew Scott, wrote on Instagram. “Hooray for daily confetti, peewee and hair tease.”

Linda shared a photo and video from the party. In the clip, the birthday girl, her beau and the other guests showcase their ’80s styles while dancing down a hallway.

“My heart hurts this is so good,” commented Jonathan and Drew’s older brother J.D. Scott, 43.

Here’s the post. I imagine that after making this video and taking all the pictures, everyone was tired and in bed by 9:00 PM. Which is honestly ideal. Zooey is giving me real “please kill me” vibes in this photo though. And really, can you blame her? What’s more, suspiciously, she doesn’t show up in the dance montage. Is Zooey OK?

Johnathan also paid tribute to his relentless ray of sunshine on his Instagram. Bring back bizarro Dark Zooey from the last picture!

Zooey also posted a birthday message of her own.

OK, now that I think about it, I’m beginning to wonder if Zooey actually needs to carry around extra oxygen for an undisclosed medical condition. Or that what we’re looking at is actually cleverly concealed insulin pumps or colostomy bags. Otherwise, why does a 40 year-old need to be surrounded by balloons at all times? It’s not natural. Maybe it’s time to #Pray4Zooey
