Bond Producer Barbara Broccoli Says There Will Never Be A Female James Bond

Variety spoke with the owner and reigning queen of all things James Bond, Barbara Broccoli who runs the franchise along with her half-brother, Michael G. Wilson. She had some things to say about the future of Bond and let us know that while 007 may one day be a person of color, Bond will never be a woman. But it’s because she thinks women are “more interesting than that.”

Barbara spoke with Variety about the James Bond franchise and the future of the character since Daniel Craig is supposed to finally be retiring from the role after this next movie is released, No Time To Die. Barbara said that if you aren’t happy with her family’s choices owning the Bond franchise, too bad, so sad: she’ll do what she likes because this is a very serious matter.

“For better or worse, we are the custodians of this character. We take that responsibility seriously.”

She also said that she’s so sad that Daniel is leaving the franchise because she wants that aging blonde DILF to keep saving the world. He can certainly save my world–that wasn’t sexual enough. He can rake my moon–there we go.

Daniel said how Barbara roped him back into doing No Time To Die:

“Barbara doesn’t take no for an answer. It’s not in her wheelhouse. I had a nice long break, which I really needed. And then she was just persistent and came to me with some ideas, which we started formulating, and I got excited again.”

Meanwhile, Barbara is in denial about Daniel leaving:

“I’m in total denial. I’ve accepted what Daniel has said, but I’m still in denial. It’s too traumatic for me.”

But she also says that his exit is one that should make sense to fans:

“We have come to an emotionally satisfying conclusion.”

Now, as for what’s next, black Bond: maybe. Lady Bond: never.

“He can be of any color, but he is male. I believe we should be creating new characters for women–strong female characters. I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”

So there you go, all the fanboys who were  worried that Lashana Lynch was about to be the main man on campus, can relax. It will never happen. Although, the racist fanboys may get angry if Barbara can finally pull through with some Idris Elba as Bond. You think Daniel Craig leaving is traumatic? Idris Elba will give you such good a Bond that when he leaves you, you’ll go crazy like Ali Larter in Obsessed.
