Bradley Cooper Is The Reason Brad Pitt Got Sober

During last year’s award season, it felt like you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing an A-list celebrity gush about how great Bradley Cooper is. And I thought that was an energy we all collectively agreed to leave back in 2019, but apparently Brad Pitt was not one of us. Brad took home an award at the National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala last night, which was presented to him by Bradley. There was a big Brad-on-Brad hug and a kiss, and Bradley was also the first person Brad thanked in his acceptance speech. Geez, get a piano you two! But more importantly, Brad revealed that it was Bradley Cooper who pushed him to get sober.

E! News says that Brad took home the National Board of Review award for Best Supporting Actor (an award that, coincidentally, went to Bradley’s A Star Is Born co-star Sam Elliott last year). The winners aren’t a surprise – they’re announced well in advance. And that means the people in charge can pick a celebrity friend or a frequent collaborator to present the award to the winner. There was a time that Brad might have requested his award be presented by Towelie from South Park, but Brad’s not about that life anymore. Not long after Angelina Jolie filed papers to divorce Brad back in 2016, we learned about a messy family situation between an allegedly drunk Brad and Maddox on a private airplane. Brad revealed in 2017 that he had given up drinking. Last year he confessed to being an active member of AA.

Brad said in his speech that Bradley was the push he needed to get sober. And not only is Bradley Brad’s sober angel, he’s also the World’s Best Dad.

“Thank you Bradley. Bradley just put his daughter to bed and rushed over here to do this. He’s a sweetheart. I got sober because of this guy. And every day has been happier ever since. I love you and I thank you.”

He also referenced his newfound sobriety later in his speech, saying:

“My goals in life now are pretty simple. Just to be happy, stay healthy, and not get into a financial situation where I have to do Ocean’s Fourteen.”

Hello? I’d like to crush a goal to death, please” said Angelina, as she called up her divorce lawyer.

Here’s more of Brad and his best buddy Bradley from last night:

Brad only said that Bradley got him sober. He doesn’t say whether Bradley is his sponsor, or his sober coach. But if Bradley is doing some part-time work helping Brad achieve his goals, he might want to spend some time on the “be happy” part. Because even Brad will tell you his personal life could use a little rehab. Just, maybe skip the lesson about tucking his kids into bed.
