Chet Hanks Responded To The Responses He Got For Speaking Jamaican Patois

January 7, 2020 / Posted by:

Chet “Haze” Hanks has all the swagger of that “You Know I Had To Do It To Em” meme come to life. And at the 2020 Golden Globes, Tom Hanks‘ failson Chester decided to show us how he’s grown so far from arguing about his right to use the N-word by speaking in a Jamaican patois accent. I have no idea why, there aren’t any Jamaicans in the Hollywood Foreign Press. I don’t know anyone in the HFP but I already know that fact. Well he’s back to, I guess, explain or defend it? Lord knows. Or as Chet would say: “Lawd nose!”

Entertainment Tonight says that Chet posted to Instagram following the commotion, but I’m not sure the message he’s trying to send. In one post he shows a screenshot of a CNN story about how everyone was like, “What was wrong with Tom Hanks’ son last night?” In the other, he’s holding his dad’s Golden Globe. His caption suggests that CNN should focus on more important things. Oh, Chet Haze, acting like he doesn’t live for this attention!

Chet posted another video of him speaking Jamaican Patois and he just let it fly freely from his lips. He said (and I try to quote):

“Yo! Big up di yout-dem way outo Kingston. Mi wake up dis mornin’ and mi see di ting tuhrn uhp! Internet gone mahd! Reespec youdonno…”

I can’t decipher his last sentence before he shouts:

“Booyaka! Booyaka! Urrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhh.”

This is painful to watch–I think I’ve done it eight times in the last five minutes. His peach-blonde chin-framing beard really puts it over the edge. One person commented:

“Drake shaking in his Canadian crib Right now.”

And I howled because if you’re from Toronto you know that “Toronto Mans” like Drake–who never grew up in Jamaica nor with family members from there–speak exactly like ol’ Chester over here. And honestly while watching that video, my brain zoned out so much over the stupidity of it all and all I could think was, “But tell me more about these eco-friendly bowls and don’t do it in Jamaican Patois.
