People announced yesterday that Michelle Williams is engaged to Hamilton director Thomas Kail and is pregnant with his baby. Busy Philipps just woke up to 946 new text messages on her phone that all read: “So…can you hook me up with free Hamilton tickets?”
It’s not exactly known how long 39-year-old Michelle and 42-year-old Thomas have been together. People does say that they worked together on the miniseries Fosse/Verdon (Thomas directed 5 of the series’ 8 episodes). Filming began in November 2018, so anytime between then and now is about as narrowed-down as we can get. Whenever it happened, People can tell us that Michelle’s 14-year-old daughter Matilda Ledger set them up.
Michelle and Thomas were caught strolling hand-in-hand, and what do you know, Michelle just to happened to make sure there was a very clear shot of her engagement ring.
A source also tells People that Michelle is currently pregnant, and was seen shopping at a London baby store. Michelle is currently in London filming Venom 2. This will be Michelle’s second kid, and Thomas’ first. He has no children from his first marriage, which brings us to the possibility of some drama.
So, Michelle got married in 2018 to musician Phil Elverum. In April 2019, it was reported that they were getting a divorce after less than a year of marriage. Thomas got married to Broadway actress Angela Christian in 2006. Us Weekly points out that it’s not known when they split up, but that Thomas and Angela were seen together on a red carpet in December 2018. Michelle and Thomas started working together in November 2018. And Phil and Angela were left out of People’s story for some reason. It was probably just an honest mistake!
But the one thing People forgot that they really should have remembered was to specifically state that Thomas Kail is NOT getting married to Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child. Michelle went ahead and addressed The Other Michelle’s engagement and baby news on Instagram, for anyone who was still not sure who was getting married.
Michelle often gets dragged into The Other Michelle’s life, and it was inevitable that she would get dragged into this moment too. Thankfully she was able to make it absolutely clear. Michelle didn’t have to go the extra mile, but it was a good move. Because really, Michelle shouldn’t have to spend her New Year’s Eve tweeting at confused haters to please stop calling her The Hamilton Homewrecker.
