Paulina Porizkova Is Coming For A Piece Of Ric Ocasek’s Estate

Ric Ocasek passed away back in September, and we learned that his estranged wife Paulina had been cut out of his will. Ric stated in his will that he was leaving Paulina out because she had “abandoned” him. This was sort of weird to everyone, because even though they were separated at the time, Paulina had still been posting on Instagram about him and how they were still living together like a family. Paulina was also the one who found him dead because she was bringing him a morning coffee. Paulina lawyered up, and now Page Six says that she’s trying to get a cut of Ric’s estate.

Paulina’s sons with Ric, Jonathan Ocasek and Oliver Ocasek, were not cut out of the will but two of Ric’s other sons, Adam Ocasek and Christopher Ocasek, were. So it seemed like this wasn’t exactly about to be Knives Out, but there was room for some drama. Under New York law, where Paulina and Ric lived, Paulina is entitled to one-third of Ric’s reported $5 million fortune. Paulina’s lawyer filed papers yesterday stating:

“I, Paulina Porizkova, the surviving spouse of the Decedent, do hereby exercise the personal right of election [and] elect to take my elective share.”

A lawyer, who isn’t involved in the case, told Page Six the tea about the laws of New York and basically Paulina has to prove she didn’t abandon Ric:

“Usually, it’s automatic but here there is a factual question because Ocasek’s will said she abandoned him. That needs to be determined by the court or by way of settlement… If she did abandon him, then she may be disqualified from exercising the right of election against her husband’s will. She appears to have been looking after him in the final days… I doubt she’ll get nothing.”

As for Adam and Christopher, they hired lawyer August Venturini who gave this statement about whether or not they two are going for a piece of Ric’s estate:

“Right now, we are exercising my clients’ right to obtain information from the Estate. We’ll see where it leads.”

Hopefully this does not end up in a murder mystery set in the expansive home of the decedent but if it did, Rian Johnson should direct it because Knives Out is really good. Now I’m not sure how these legal proceedings go–like interviews or whatever–but good luck to Paulina in her money-getting. Let’s just hope that Tyra Banks doesn’t show up as a character witness.
