“Richard Jewell” Flopped Hard At The Box Office
After all the controversy and talk surrounding Clint Eastwood‘s latest movie, Richard Jewell, it still tanked at the box office. That movie flopped harder than Charlie’s Angels! But you know what did not? Jumanji: The Next Level which is making so much money. You people love watching someone get lost in a board game, huh? Thank god, otherwise Dwayne Johnson would be broke this Christmas.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Richard Jewell flopped at this weekend’s box office. The movie was getting flack for claiming that real life journalist, Kathy Scruggs, had sex with an FBI agent for a tip. Olivia Wilde, who played the reporter spoke out about it saying that was not her intention but she couldn’t speak for anyone else. Well no one cared enough about this to go see the movie out of curiosity, or maybe they were so angry at someone dissing a journalist and slandering them in such a way that everyone boycotted it. But I don’t think that’s it.
The movie was expected to make $10 million in the debut weekend, if not higher, but ma’am: it’s made half that. The movie made $5 million on a budget of $45 million.
The only new movie in the top three was Jumanji at #1 with a huge opening of $60 million which is on top of opening last week in foreign markets so the movie so far already earned $212 million globally. Frozen II and Knives Out were second and third, continuing Frozen‘s money-making (it’s now topped $1 billion globally) and Chris Evans’ sweater’s power. Here’s the top 10 of the domestic box office:
- Jumanji: The Next Level – $60 million
- Frozen II – $19 million
- Knives Out – $9.2 million
- Richard Jewell – $5 million
- Black Christmas – $4.4 million
- Ford v. Ferrari – $4.1 million
- Queen & Slim – $3.6 million
- A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood – $3.3 million
- Dark Waters – $2 million
- 21 Bridges – $1.1 million
Well Clint you flopped. I would say something encouraging and emotional, but I know you hate that shit, so I’ll say what you would say: “Get over it, pussy!”
