Amazon Has Reportedly Spent $25 Million On A Documentary About Rihanna

The Hollywood Reporter say that Amazon has paid $25 million for a documentary about singer-turned-makeup millionaire-turned-current reigning underwear queen Rihanna. Somewhere in Florida, an Amazon delivery person paid $0 to ask Aaron Carter what made him get that huge Rihanna tattoo on the side of his face.

For those of you asking, “Ooh na na, what’s the name?“, about the doc, I hate to break it to you, but there is no title at the moment. But THR does say that production began years ago by actor/director Peter Berg, who created the Friday Night Lights TV show.

The untitled doc, which Berg began working on years ago, is dubbed an unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life, providing a glimpse into the evolution of one of the world’s most well-known pop artists. With unparalleled access into the singer’s life and more than 1,200 hours of footage, the doc offers private insights into Rihanna’s personality, sense of humor, work ethic, family and love.

Peter first spoke to THR about it two years ago. He confirmed that he had pretty much completed his Rihanna documentary, and that it was mostly filmed back in 2016.

“I’m finishing that now. We’ve got about a thousand hours of footage. That was a fun change of pace. After Lone Survivor and Deepwater and Patriots Day, where all these men run around with guns, to go travel with Rihanna around Europe, and Rihanna is surrounded by girls.”

Peter claimed that a big part of the doc was a concert in Nice, France that Rihanna was forced to cancel after the 2016 Bastille Day attack. As for why Rihanna decided to work with a guy I most closely associate with trucks, beat-up cowboy boots, and Tami Taylor saying “Hey yawall“, it’s most likely because they had a good time working together on the 2012 film Battleship.

The documentary was shopped around to multiple distributors, and Amazon won out with their $25 million bid. This news comes about a week after it was reported that Apple had dropped $25 million on a documentary about Billie Eilish.

It’s not known if this documentary will include any recent footage. I kind of hope it does. If only because I want to watch a scene where Rihanna is asked for the ten millionth time when new music is coming, and she yells, “How much Amazon money will it take for you to STOP ASKING?
