A Reboot Of “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” Starring Josh Gad May Happen

Variety says that a reboot of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is in the early stages of happening, and Josh Gad may take the lead role withJoe Johnson directing. It seems like Josh is a huge Rick Moranis fan as he was also in talks to start in the remake of Little Shop Of Horrors a few years back. (Or maybe Josh HATES Rick Moranis and has made it his life goal to take and ruin all of Rick’s most beloved roles.) The premise of the new Honey will be just like the original because why come up with anything new when you just ruin the first one? Josh will play the son of the original scientist who also somehow shrinks his kids. Which makes sense that 30 years later we have learned nothing and still can’t aim a machine at something other than children.

via Variety:

In this version, Gad will play Wayne’s grown-up son, who follows in his father’s footsteps by not only becoming a scientist, but also accidentally shrinking his children.

I’m so sad that Rick Moranis isn’t mentioned. Rick pretty much retired from acting (he does do a little project here and there) to raise his two children as a single dad after his wife died. Although, he did state that he’s not retired, just really picky about roles and isn’t going to take a role he’s not into. Soooo I’m not sure a reboot of a 30-year-old movie with the exact same premise will peak his interest, but here’s hoping!

Even if Rick Moranis is not involved there does seem to be some interest in the reboot, because it’s headed for the theaters instead of streaming:

The studio had flirted with the idea of debuting the film on Disney Plus, but Rosenberg’s recent draft elicited enthusiasm from execs. Now, the plan is to release the film theatrically. Sources also add development is still in early stages and a greenlight has not yet been given.

It should be noted that this isn’t the first remake of the classic movie. There seems to be at least one porn parody called Honey, I Blew Everyone, and it also (sadly) doesn’t star Rick Moranis.
