Matt Smith Might Be Dating Claire Foy After He Split From Lily James
According to The Daily Mail, a real-life romance between two characters from the first two seasons of The Crown might be happening. The ultimate hook-up, in my opinion, would have been Prince Philip and organized hottie Martin Charteris. But people are saying that season 1 and 2 Queen Elizabeth, Claire Foy, and her Prince Philip Matt Smith might possibly have something non-platonic going on at the moment. And in true The Crown fashion, there might be a little bit of old-fashioned scandal to their coupling.
On Sunday, 30-year-old Lily James (aka Cinderella and Baby Driver’s girlfriend) made an appearance at the British Independent Film Awards. And her presence was notable, because it was the first time she was seen in public after reportedly breaking up with 37-year-old Matt Smith. Lily and Matt dated for five years, and they hadn’t been seen together in months. Matt was papped on Sunday afternoon in London without Lily.
Matt wasn’t at the British Independent Film Awards with Lily, because they’re probably not dating anymore. But here’s where it gets a little gossipy.
The Daily Mail claims that sources have said Matt has been getting post-breakup emotional support from 35-year-old Claire. And the implication is that Matt didn’t have to wait very long before Claire’s hand hit his back in a “there there, love” way.
Matt and Claire have formed a close and mutually supportive friendship, and have been spending time together near their different homes in North London in recent weeks, a source told The Mail on Sunday.
Matt and Claire recently starred in the play Lungs at the Old Vic. They played a married couple discussing the idea of having a child. The Daily Mail says it required the two of them to spend a lot of time together rehearsing, as well as during the three weeks worth of performances. In February of 2018, Claire announced she had split up with her husband of four years, so she’s technically single and very ready to mingle with whoever she chooses. And then there’s this:
The friends seemed to revel in each other’s company at the opening night after-party in October.
That sounds like a very British way of implying that they’re horny for each other. In April of this year, they were seen hanging out together.
Claire Foy: Scratch mine too
Matt Smith: OK

So we don’t really know if anything is going on between The Queen and Prince Philip. They might really be just close friends who groom each other like monkeys when they get a little tipsy. And we can’t know with any certainty if Claire had anything to do with Matt and Lily’s split. All I know is that Claire and Matt’s friendship-whatever won’t be without any awkwardness. And I’m not talking about his breakup with Lily. I’m talking about the fact that he’ll never get away with pitching in his half for dinner during future platonic friend dates, because Claire knows he’s got it.
