The Queen Is Reportedly Sad That Prince Harry And Duchess Meghan Are Skipping Her Christmas Party

When Archie writes his first letter to Santa this year, his mummy and daddy are going to have to make a very special note that Santa will only be delivering toys to the Cambridge kids during his stop at Sandringham, because Archie isn’t spending Christmas there. Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan, and Archie are avoiding Queen Elizabeth’s annual holiday do at her country house in Sandringham. Anyone with any knowledge of Harry and Meghan’s alleged current status with The Queen most likely figured they bailed on Sandringham because it would be a ho-ho-horrible time for all. That might be so, but it still apparently has made The Queen sad that they won’t be home for Christmas.

When it was announced that Harry and Meghan would be spending Christmas with Meghan’s mom Doria Ragland, a royal spokesperson commented that their choice was in line with precedent set by other members of the royal family, and that they had full support from The Queen. It sounded very drama free, and actually pretty casual. A source tells Us Weekly that’s not the case.

The source tells Us that Queen Elizabeth II is actually “disappointed” by the couple’s decision.

Us Weekly’s source also alleges that Harry and Meghan’s absence from Christmas at Sandringham means exactly what you think it means.

According to an insider, the “rift” between Harry and William, “is one of the main reasons behind their decision” to skip the traditional festivities.

A source that recently spoke to People magazine elaborated a little further on that alleged rift between Harry and Prince William, and it sounds like it’s more of a 10-mile wide gorge. Harry has said previously that he and his brother are on “different paths,” which is also what People’s source is saying too. Except that source is also making it seem like no one should hold their breath for those paths to rejoin any time soon.

“Everyone was doing their duties, doing what they needed to do on behalf of the family – and that was that. But there is a divide between the four of them. It’s hard for people to digest, because everyone wants them to be such a unit.”

Things allegedly started to get bad two years ago, after William warned Harry not to marry Meghan. Things are bad now, reportedly due to William and Kate’s metamorphosis into the future King and Queen.

“William is the future King. There is going to be some competitiveness between him and Harry,” says the source. “That already puts a rock in the relationship.”

People’s source adds that when Harry and Meghan come back from their trip, they’re going to have to figure out how to get along with William and Kate. But apparently all The Queen is able to focus on is how much of a bummer it is that there will be two empty chairs at dinner. Even though she’s disappointed by their choice, she should at least be able to understand why Harry wouldn’t want to be there, right? Nobody should have to experience the extreme awkwardness that would come from Harry faking a tight smile as his brother sharply demands to know if he likes the socks Duchess Kate gave him. Then again, word around town is that The Queen isn’t exactly the most skilled at reading the room or recognizing when brothers that can’t stand each other.
