Blue Ivy Carter Is Already An Award-Winning Songwriter At 7 Years Old
Blue Ivy Carter is 7 years old and has already won a BET Soul Train Award in songwriting for her artistic writing contributions to her mom Beyonce’s song Brown Skin Girl. This reminds us all how useless our soccer participation awards are! Blue Ivy wrote the lyrics, “Brown skin girl, your skin just like pearls, the best thing in the world, never trade you for anybody else.” And I’ll sit here and wait for Linda Perry to try to snatch that award right out of Blue Ivy’s hands after accusing her of pulling a Beyonce, and then the Beyhive will swarm Linda like Macaulay Culkin in My Girl.
According to Entertainment Weekly:
At seven years old, Blue Ivy Carter is already building a killer résumé.
The daughter of Beyoncè and Jay-Z just won a songwriting award for contributing to her mom’s track “Brown Skin Girl” with SAINt JHN and WizKid. At the 2019 BET Soul Train Awards on Sunday, Blue Ivy took home the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award, which also credits her parents as co-writers.
Blue Ivy has already had her name trademarked and has her own stylist, so we shouldn’t be surprised that she’s already getting writing credits and awards. She’ll probably have her own record label by the 5th grade and will rule the world by 8th grade. And since we’re talking about child prodigies. Not to brag, but I once won my 7th grade science fair. (Well, I came in second. Shut up, Blue Ivy!). It was 1992 and I did a report on AIDS, and I was a certified idiot so it was probably based solely on my love for the Salt-N-Pepa’s Let’s Talk About Sex song. I also didn’t realize that there needed to be some sort of presentation in between the tri-fold post board, so I called my mom in a panic and asked her to get some condoms from the doctor’s office. Which she did and much to the chagrin of every science teacher I ever had, I ended up taking 2nd place. Still don’t know how I won. My only guess is the judges were also fans of Let’s Talk About Sex and/or needed some condoms.
So dream big, kids! You never know when you can get a science award or get a song credit and subsequent song writing award! Just get super famous parents who will put you in their songs, or parents who will get condoms at a moment’s notice with zero follow up questions.
Here’s the song that made Blue Ivy go from chosen one Blue Ivy Carter to award-winning chosen one Blue Ivy Carter:
