The Sussexes Released A New Picture Of Archie In Honor Of Prince Charles’ Birthday

Today isn’t just Laura San Giacomo’s birthday. It’s also the 71st birthday of Prince Charles, and he got a little boost in birthday attention, thanks to a post from the official Sussex Royal Instagram account. The only downside is that Prince Charles was kind of overshadowed by his baby grandson Archie. Still, it’s got to be a relief for Queen Elizabeth to see that one of her sons was trending on the internet today, and it wasn’t…well, you know which one.

Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan, and Archie wished Charles a very happy birthday by posting a never-before-seen picture of Charles, Harry, and Archie from Archie’s Christening day. Harry and Meghan previously shared two photos of Archie’s big day. They don’t share too many photos of Archie, because they want him to live a private-ish life. But they decided to post one of the three generations for Grandpa Charles’ birthday.

Maybe Archie is making that sluggish baby face because he’s tired from all the attention. Or maybe it’s because he just looked at his dad, then his grandpa, and realized that he’s only got about 25 years before he’s forced to get really into hats. Or maybe he just wants to teethe on His Royal Grampyness’ pocket hanky. We’ll never know.

You’re probably thinking to yourself that this might be the first story about Harry and Meghan in a long while that couldn’t possibly come with a side of shadiness. Well, during the The Daily Mail’s reporting on Archie’s birthday wish to Grandpa (here we go), it was mentioned that the official Sussex Royal Instagram account posted their birthday tribute to Charles just about 30 minutes after Prince William and Duchess Kate posted theirs. Kensington Palace also went with a photo of Charles and his grandson (in this one, Prince Louis holding Charles’ hands at Charles’ birthday party last year), as well as a picture of Charles and William, and a third featuring Charles, William, and Harry. Harry and William aren’t exactly BFFs at the moment, so we can only assume how he felt about being added to William’s official birthday wishes.

This also all comes a day after we learned that Harry and Meghan are planning to skip Royal Christmas this year. So I’m sure The Daily Mail wasn’t being shady or shit-disturbing with that time stamp sleuthing. But really, if it wasn’t them, it would be someone in the British press who would have discovered that Sussex Royal posted their picture 30 minutes after Kensington Royal. And I’m sure they’ve hired an emoji expert to decode the reason why Will and Kate put their cake emoji at the start of their birthday wishes, while Harry and Meghan posted theirs at the end. But let me take a crack at what they’d probably come up with. Will and Kate are generous, humble angels who would offer cake to the birthday boy first. Whereas Harry and Meghan are spoiled brats who poke at the cake with their fingers, complain that it tastes like canned frosting, and slide it across the table while asking Charles if he wants any before they dump it in the trash.
