Quilty, the escape artist cat!

Houdini? More like WHOdini when it comes to Quilty. Quilty may only be 7 years old (in cat years) but he’s already a skilled master in the art of escaping. Quilty’s escape skills have started the hashtag #FreeQuilty, but please. Quilty doesn’t need help with freeing himself. Quilty’s got this.

Quilty is currently holed up at The Friends For Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Shelter in Houston, TX. He was actually born there, and ended up back in the system after his former human dropped him off there because they moved. Quilty’s human dumping him at a shelter because they were moving makes sense and is very humane. We all know that cat’s explode when you take them across the city limits of where they live. When Quilty ended up in his birthplace again, he decided to shake shit up and show Tim Robbins’ Shawshank Redemption character how prison escapery is really done.

On its Facebook page, Friends For Life wrote that when Quilty returned to the shelter a few months ago, he figured out how to open the door to the cat jail and send the imprisoned pussies to sweet, sweet freedom! Staff figured out that Quilty was able to open the door handle, so they’ve put a broom on it. They’ve also banished Quilty to the lobby. And apparently, Quilty isn’t only about freeing cats, he has freed a dog too.

Quilty will not be contained. And he has no shame.

Quilty loves to let cats out of the senior room. Repeatedly. Several times a day.

We have since Quilty-proofed the cat room, while he took a brief hiatus in the lobby. His roommates missed him while he was banished to the lobby. They enjoyed their nighttime escapades around the shelter. The staff, however, did not miss the morning cat wrangling, so we’ll just have to agree to disagree there.

Apparently this is not a new skill he learned here at the shelter; he used to let his dog sibling in the house at his old home.

If someone out there is looking for a clever cat that gets along with dogs but does not get along with closed doors, we have someone they really need to come and meet.

If Quilty hasn’t been snatched up yet, he should be very soon. I mean, having a diabolically brilliant pussy like Quilty in your home would only be a good thing. If you ever lock yourself out, you can count on Quilty to open up the door and let you in! Then again, Quilty may just stare at you through the window with eyes full of revenge and piss on your sofa in retaliation for what humans have done to him!
