Jenna Dewan Was “Blindsided” When She Found Out Channing Tatum Was Dating Jessie J

When Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan announced they were done after 9 years of marriage, they both released the same no-drama statement about their split, saying that absolutely nothing had changed about how much they loved each other, but that they just weren’t going to be married anymore. Their hearts might not have changed, but their mouths clearly had decided to stop talking to each other. Because Jenna has revealed in her new book that she found out about Channing and Jessie J in the same way we all did: by reading it on the internet.

In Jenna’s book Gracefully You: Finding Beauty and Balance in the Everyday, she writes that one such thing she had to balance were her emotions after she had discovered that Channing moved on to her Gradient twin (sorry Jessie). Jenna says she dealt with her separation by drinking a lot of wine and crying and hanging out with her girlfriends. But apparently there’s no amount of pinot that can truly ease you through the burden of being married to someone famous. via E! News:

“I was in a state of shock. One week I’d be doing really well and the next I was slammed with a whole new slew of emotions. The rumor mill was churning out story after story. There were many times I hid under the covers, wondering what was next. The pain hit me like a tumbling avalanche. I was completely overcome with fear and sadness. It took many moments of sitting alone with my grief to force me into surrendering to my roller coaster of a situation.”

She’s most likely referring to the rumor that her marriage ended because Channing was too busy “partying and flirting” with other women. Or maybe the rumor that their marriage was done long before they announced they were over. Whatever the rumor, there was one story that she couldn’t exactly hide under the covers from, because it ended up being very true. Six months after they told the world they had split, people started gossiping that Channing was bang banging Jessie J.

“There I was, on a plane, alone, finding out about his new relationship. I felt blindsided. Choosing grace as I learned everything about my personal situation along with the rest of the world was really difficult. It was quite a challenge to remain graceful; to say the least. That’s when your real character comes out. Instead of reacting the way I wanted to…I asked myself this: How do I choose grace in this moment? Had I not been practicing this way of life beforehand, I definitely wouldn’t have handled this news very gracefully.”

Of course, everything ended up working out for Jenna. Not long after it was revealed that Channing was with Jessie J, we learned that Jenna also had a new man in Broadway actor Steve Kazee, and she’s currently pregnant with his baby.

You don’t have to do too much reading between the lines to know that she’s implying she’s pissed that Channing never gave her a heads up about his new relationship. And to be fair, he didn’t really have to. There’s no relationship law that says you have to cushion the blow with a warning text! Still, she held off on starting shit in anyone’s comments section, because she didn’t want their 6-year-old daughter Everly to grow up and read what mommy wrote.

“Do you know how many times I’ve wanted to go online and write exactly what’s on my mind? Thousands. My instinct is to fight back, set the record straight. What stops me every time is: ‘Choose to say what you would want yourself to live with a week from today.’ Or ‘Choose what you would want Everly to read when she’s older.'”

Maybe a little drama wouldn’t have hurt her daughter. I like to think 20-year-old Everly would have laughed to learn that her mom felt a little too fiesty after her third glass of wine and tweeted: “Hey Channing, just heard the news that you’re now letting Jessie do all the work in the bedroom.
