Elton John Did Not Like The “Live-Action” Version Of “The Lion King”

Elton John did an interview with British GQ to promote his new autobiography Me, and he used the time to tell everyone that he, who of course wrote the songs for the original The Lion King, believes that the music was a big part of the first one and the live-action mess failed to recapture that. Elton believes it had as much charisma as his arch enemy Madonna has an actress.

Elton said this to British GQ;

“The new version of The Lion King was a huge disappointment to me, because I believe they messed the music up. Music was so much a part of the original and the music in the current film didn’t have the same impact. The magic and joy were lost.”

Elton took time to drag the soundtrack and remind everyone that the soundtrack didn’t have the same impact his did 25 years ago, and then said that at least the The Lion King stage musical got it right.

“The soundtrack hasn’t had nearly the same impact in the charts that it had 25 years ago, when it was the bestselling album of the year. The new soundtrack fell out of the charts so quickly, despite the massive box-office success. I wish I’d been invited to the party more, but the creative vision for the film and its music was different this time around and I wasn’t really welcomed or treated with the same level of respect. That makes me extremely sad. I’m so happy that the right spirit for the music lives on with the Lion King stage musical.”

The soundtrack obviously didn’t have the cultural impact that Elton’s did, but that doesn’t mean Elton has to be such a salty bitch about it! That said, I wonder what he meant by not really being welcomed or treated with the same level of respect. I mean, did they not see Tantrums and Tiaras?! Rude.

No word if Elton and has seen the porn version of The Lion King called The Loin King, but it sounds like he would like it more because at least they pay homage to his music with songs like “The Circle Jerk of Life” and “Can You Fill My Muff Tonight“. And we all know Eddie Redmayne has probably seen it for Nayla alone.

Honestly, Elton should have taken a lesson from his friend THE QUEEN and gathered up all the makers of the live-action The Lion King to slap them all in the face while yelling, “I. AM. THE. LION. KING. QUEEN!
