Hugh Grant Thinks Movie Theaters Need To Turn Down The Damn Volume!

Joker is continuing tobreak box office records and cause controversy but Hugh Grant wins for most random complaint about the Joker: It’s too damn loud. Hugh complained about the volume of the movie, and not to the theatre at the time or whatever the British version of AARP is. He went where everyone goes to bitch and moan about stupid shit. Twitter.

Hugh started with this:

When someone from the cinema responded to his tweet and asked which theatre he was at, Hugh let his real sass and dad joke humor soar by tweeting this:

Hugh’s old man complaints may actually have some substance as the volumes on movies have gone up over the years and others were quick to agree with him, according to The Guardian:

The incident has provoked an outpouring of accounts of aural pain at other venues. Many filmgoers say they believe sound levels have been crawling up the decibel scale, and not just for the adverts and trailers. Several sufferers also argued that a lack of balanced settings in an auditorium can create an unpleasant booming sensation.

“I can’t watch mine, or any films, in commercial cinemas for this reason! It’s like a restaurant adding too much salt in the food,” agreed one producer.

My family watches TV at a deafening level (so much so that the neighbors thought my brother was hearing impaired) so I am no judge of sound. Also, Hugh wasn’t wrong when he asked if he was getting old, as age and hearing are intertwined.

And it turns out that Grant may be right: it does also have something to do with age. The Dolby expert explained that ageing affects the intelligibility of dialogue and makes us more sensitive to sound.

Hugh said recently that he was too old and too ugly for rom-coms (but not too old and ugly to stop making babies with different women! Lucky kids!) and now he’s too old to even go to the movies. Oh Hugh! This is a tragedy beyond measure. Hopefully you’ll be able to cry into your millions of dollars and return to the movies when they have fixed the sound to your liking. Also, no word on what he thinks of the temperature of movie theaters, but I’m sure we’ll hear about that soon!
