NBC News Fired Matt Lauer After He Was Accused Of Rape By A Colleague

So we knew that Ronan Farrow was coming out with a book, called Catch and Kill, and was planning to cover even more allegations about Matt Lauer that’d make you go down to the ER and say to the nurse, “Um, yeah, there’s a very good reason for why I look like I just walked out of BODIES: The Exhibition and that’s because all my skin straight-up and literally crawled off and ran far, far away. So yeah, I’m going to need new skin whenever you get a minute.” Well, say goodbye to your skin, because an interview from the book has been released and it includes allegations of Matt Lauer anal raping a woman who worked for NBC News. Welp, cut to a bunch of slabs of skin hitchhiking on the side of the road while holding a bindle. They’re out of here.

Today became a lot less SMUG in 2017 after the dick secretion of SMUG was fired by NBC News over allegations from an employee that he sexually assaulted her during the Olympics in Sochi in 2014. That brought on more stories about how Matt Lauer took regular “cheating on his wife” shit to new levels of illegal and wrong by repeatedly sexual harassing employees.

Variety says that Ronan talked to the accuser whose accusations finally brought down the Pompous Butt Plug King of Morning Television, even though several employees reportedly complained to NBC News about his grossness before. Brooke Nevils, whose identity has been kept anonymous until now, worked for Meredith Vieira during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Brooke says that one night while drinking with Meredith at the hotel bar, Matt joined them. Brooke had six shots of vodka, which your average Russian may call “first sip of water in the morning,” but would leave many people drunk. Brooke says she was drunk when Matt decided to play a “joke” on her by taking her press pass and bringing it back to his room. That’s some if “Harvey Weinstein produced Punk’d” foolery.

Brooke says she went to his hotel room to get her press pass and went back to the bar. Later that night, she went to Matt’s room again after he invited her, and said that based on her previous interactions with him, she had no reason to think something bad was going to happen. But according to her, something really bad happened immediately, and as soon as she was in the room, Matt, who was only wearing a t-shirt and boxers, pushed her up against the door and began to kiss her. Brooke alleges that he then pushed her onto the bed, flipped her over, and asked her if she liked anal sex. She says she let him know several times she wasn’t into that, but he ignored her and raped her.

According to Nevils, she “was in the midst of telling him she wasn’t interested again when he ‘just did it,’” Farrow writes. “Lauer, she said, didn’t use lubricant. The encounter was excruciatingly painful. ‘It hurt so bad. I remember thinking, Is this normal?’ She told me she stopped saying no, but wept silently into a pillow.” Lauer then asked her if she liked it. She tells him yes. She claims that “she bled for days,” Farrow writes.

Brooke says that because she was too drunk to consent and also said no multiple times, it was not consensual.

When they got back to NYC, she says she had several “sexual encounters” with Matt, and sources close to him say that she initiated sometimes. Brooke says she blames herself for this, but that the encounters were “transactional” and she was afraid of Matt’s power over her career.

Brooke says that her situation with Matt was not a secret and she told co-workers and her bosses. Nothing happened until the #MeToo movement in 2017 when Today staffers began to ask her about Matt. Brooke then told Meredith about what happened in Sochi, and Meredith told her to go to human resources at NBC and bring a lawyer with her. That’s exactly what she did and two days later, NBC News publicly announced that Matt was out.

Things didn’t get better for Brooke. She tells Ronan that she got the heaves when she heard that Noah Oppenheim, the president of NBC News, and Andrew Lack, the chairman of NBC News and MSNBC, wanted to make it clear that the “incident” wasn’t “criminal” or an “assault.” Brooke, who HR promised to keep anonymous, also had to sit in meetings about the accusations and listen to supporters of Matt go “err” about the claims. Eventually Brooke’s colleagues put everything together and realized she was the accuser. She went on medical leave in 2018. She says that she never wanted money from NBC, but was eventually paid “seven figures” and given a statement she was supposed to read:

“The network proposed a script she would have to read, suggesting that she had left to pursue other endeavors, that she was treated well, and that NBC News was a positive example of sexual harassment,” Farrow writes.

If you work at 30 Rock and had to evacuate the building due to smoke alarms going off, it was obviously from the smoke blasting out of the ears of the panicking employees of NBC News’ PR Department. But they’re on it this morning and put out this statement:

“Matt Lauer’s conduct was appalling, horrific and reprehensible, as we said at the time. That’s why he was fired within 24 hours of us first learning of the complaint. Our hearts break again for our colleague.”

Ronan also claims in his book something we’ve heard before, which is that he planned to do an exposé on Harvey Weinstein but was told by NBC News that nobody knows who Weinstein is and to stop the report. Ronan took his report to The New Yorker where it was published in October 2017, and we all know what happened next.

NBC News also got Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb to talk about the Matt Lauer claims on Today this morning, and they said that this has gone from allegations of affairs to allegations of a crime, so they’re shocked and don’t know what to say, but they praised Brooke for coming forward.

If you watch Today every morning like I do, you were probably waiting for the producers to make Hoda end that part with, “And now let’s lighten things up with our Morning Boost!

As for Matt, he of course, denies it all. Matt would like you to know that he’s a cheating piece of trash but not a rapist (Matt’s divorce was finalized last month). In a looooong statement, he claims that he didn’t rape Brooke and that they had a consensual affair that started in Sochi in 2014 and went on for months. If you’ve got about 3 hours to spare, you can read Matt’s long denial here. I mean, bitch is out of a job, so he’s got the time.

Matt’s also got the time to make guest appearances on his daughter’s TikTok page. A couple of days ago, TikTok videos made the rounds of Matt lip-synching to a song from Heathers: The Musical and dad dancing to a Chance The Rapper song.

Oh yes, nothing like some goofy dad shenanigans to distract from upcoming rape allegations. I don’t know whether to praise the damage control publicist in charge of trying to fix Matt’s image or tell them to look for a new career, because Matt dancing to Hot Shower is just too perfect since I need to take at least four after reading about him.
