Ansel Elgort Fans Called His “West Side Story” Co-Star Rachel Zegler A Homewrecker

Despite being an actor/DJ/model/”singer“ and his inability to grow a mustache, Ansel Elgort has his own rabid fandom. And surprise, surprise, they’re lunatics. Ansel will be starring as Tony in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film remake of West Side Story. His co-star, the Maria to his Tony, is 18-year-old Rachel Zegler, an unknown who won the role in an open casting call. So at least one of them can sing. This should be a huge moment for Rachel, but it’s been sullied by the Elgort hive. After Ansel’s recent announcement that he is interested in pursuing platonic relationships with women who aren’t his girlfriend (aka friendships, you dummy), the nation of Elgortstan jumped in to call Rachel a homewrecker after she tweeted innocuous praise for her co-star. According to The Daily Mail, it was bad enough that Rachel decided to take a break from Twitter. All of which begs the question, him?
Considering WSS is generally acknowledged as one of the most romantic stories of all time after Showgirls, it’s not surprising that Rachel has been effusive in her praise of Ansel on social media. DM reports:
Production on West Side Story wrapped last week, with the actress stating in a tweet on September 27, which was later deleted, gushing about her co-star Elgort.
‘There really aren’t enough words to describe the pride I have in Ansel’s growth and beauty and literal magic he possesses on screen and off,’ Zegler began.
‘Falling in love with him was easy. Happy wrap mi amor. Catch you on a fire escape sometime,’ Zegler concluded.
This was just a couple of days before Ansel’s interview, and apparently, the Elgort Nation jumped to the conclusion that Rachel was to blame for turning Ansel’s heart, if not his dick, away from his high school sweetheart Violetta Komyshan. So they decided the best way to solve a problem like Maria, is to get all up in her DMs.
The combination of Zegler’s tweets and Elgort’s interview seemingly lead fans to DM Zegler and call her a homewrecker, the actress said in a now-deleted tweet on Thursday night.
‘The fact that i have to say something is absolutely absurd,’ Zegler began, before addressing direct claims that she’s a ‘homewrecker.’
‘But the DMs and the name-calling and throwing around the word homewrecker over me expressing genuine love i have for my coworker is heartbreaking and i don’t want any part of it. So peace for now, I guess. Be nice,’ Zegler concluded.
After deleting the offensive tweets and her defense of them, Rachel announced she was taking a break from Twitter.

It’s as if Ansel’s fans have never heard of acting or leaning into a role before! And again, I must reiterate, HIM?
This was only yesterday, so we’ll see how long Rachel’s Twitter break actually lasts. She’s still active on Instagram and her comments are open if anybody wants to get up Steven Spielberg’s ass for gripping Ansel’s arm like this.
