Jason Bateman Is Rumored To Be In Talks To Direct The “Clue” Movie Starring Ryan Reynolds
Nearly two years ago, it was rumored that Clue, the iconic board game-turned-even more iconic movie, was finally going to get the remake treatment Hollywood has been talking about for the past ten years. Ryan Reynolds, alongside the writers of Deadpool (Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick), were tied to a remake, which would be the first in a three-series movie deal with 20th Century Fox. Ryan is still involved, which means plenty of jokes involving Mrs. Peacock in the billiard room. And according to Deadline, the person yelling, “Okay, cut – I think we’ve got more than enough jokes about cocks and balls” will be Jason Bateman.
Jason is in “early talks” to direct Clue, now at Fox/Disney. Early talks, of course, means nothing is confirmed, and this news could change at any time. Like when Jason glances over to his fireplace mantle and sees the Emmy he won last Sunday for directing Ozark, and hears Ron Howard’s voice say, “And in that moment, Jason Bateman realized that maybe he was too good to be directing a board game movie.”
Deadline says that on top of directing, Jason is also in talks to co-star and co-write the script with Ryan Reynolds. It’s not known if Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are still involved.
Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds have worked together previously, as seen above, in 2011’s The Change-Up, and in 2006’s Smokin’ Aces. As for who they’ll play, no one knows that right now. But they both seem like they’d play the straight man detective role in this Clue. I can’t picture either playing a murder suspect. So, a detective team it is. Which means there’s a 100% chance of seeing Justin Bateman stare off into space in disbelief as Ryan Reynolds confesses that he accidentally flushed the evidence while getting busy in the lavatory with Miss Scarlett.
