Kim Kardashian Got A Lot Of Laughs While Presenting At The Emmys

Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner presented at the Emmys last night, because let’s face it: unless the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences creates a category for Outstanding Attempt At Making Salad Eating Look Compelling, presenting is as close as Kim and the Koven are going to get to holding an Emmy award. But little did we know that as Kim took the stage, she wasn’t just bringing out her sister, but also a side-splitting comedy routine too.

Kim and Kendall presented Outstanding Competition Program, which is basically the award for the best reality show. RuPaul got another Emmy since RuPaul’s Drag Race won that category for the second time in a row. Usually Ru can get the whole audience laughing by cracking at least one or two jokes in his acceptance speech, but Kim beat him to it first.

People might have already gotten a case of the giggles by seeing Kendall strutted out on stage looking like a dominatrix curtain panel, but they erupted into full-blown laughter when Kim approached the mic and said the words:

“Our family knows first hand how truly compelling television comes from real people just being themselves.”

It’s not known if Kim was attempting to make a self-aware joke when she referred to her family as “real people” who are “just being themselves.” You know, considering they’re the opposite of real. But in all likelihood, Kim was just reading the boring copy that was written for her by the Emmy writing team. Because Kendall didn’t wait for a laugh break before reading her line, which made the situation about 100x more awkward. Here’s another clip of the audience cracking up at Kim’s possibly unintentional joke.

Even though Kim’s joke will go down in comedy history along with knock-knock jokes and tales of the Man from Nantucket, it probably wasn’t supposed to. Twitter started talking after Kim’s moment, and some people thought the Emmy audience was flat-out rude and shady to crack up at Kim like that.

It doesn’t matter whether Kim meant to be funny or not. Because all Lorne Michaels sees is his next Saturday Night Live cast member! SNL has a vacant space on the cast list after they were forced to fire Shane Gillis. Kim has great delivery, a perfect sense of irony, and she didn’t even break while telling that joke (she’s already a more professional cast member than Jimmy Fallon). The best part is, they can still court the right-wing audience like they allegedly wanted to! The only problem is, the show is only 90 minutes long, and it will take Kim’s slow-at-best brain at least half that time to make her way through one cue card.

And here’s Outstanding Competition Program winner RuPaul and the team from RuPaul’s Drag Race.
