There’s A Rumor That Lady Gaga Is In Talks To Star In A “Little Shop Of Horrors” Movie Remake
A Little Shop of Horrors remake-reboot-what have you has reportedly been in the works for a while over at Warner Bros., but there’s rumors claiming that they’re getting serious about casting and starting production soon. When we last heard about it, there was a rumor that it would star Josh Gad and Rebel Wilson. Now we’re hearing what sounds like serious talks about Lady Gaga.
Us Weekly says that Gaga was offered “a role” in Little Shop and that she’s “very interested to keep acting,” which sounds like she might take it. Gaga’s last film appearance was in A Star Is Born, for which she was nominated for Best Actress awards at the Oscars, Golden Globes, and SAGs this year.
Broadway World has a few more details on this project. They say that the film will still be directed by Riverdale showrunner Greg Berlanti, and written by screenwriter Matthew Robinson, as originally reported a few years ago. Additionally, it will still be a musical, like the 1986 version. The off-Broadway musical was written and composed by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman in 1982, and since the LSoH soundtrack is comprised of nothing but bops, I doubt the production team will scrap all the songs and write new ones. Unless they’re going to pull a Riverdale, and give LSoH a gritty Gen Z spin. In which case, I look forward to a song explaining that Seymour got famous as a houseplant influencer after a VSCO-filtered picture of Audrey II hit the Instagram explore page.
The only thing that’s up in the air is what part Gaga was offered, although that’s probably not going to be a shock when it’s revealed. I mean, she’s got blonde hair and can sing in a high register – she’s obviously going to play Audrey. Which is a crime, since Ellen Greene is still very much alive, and I’m sure she’s got a blonde bubble wig somewhere in the back of her closet. Or maybe Gaga will surprise us all, and play the human-eating plant Audrey II. At least it will make her Little Monsters happy. I can imagine they’ll have a lot of fun with some plant-based hate when they come for Gaga’s enemies on the internet. “You look like a wilted fig tree with root rot, bitch!”
