Mickey Rourke Says Robert De Niro Refuses To Work With Him Over An Old “Angel Heart” Feud

32 years later, the Hollywood feud of the century that I never knew about, still rages on. Mickey Rourke still hates his Angel Heart co-star Robert De Niro with the heat of a thousand tanning beds. According to Page Six, Mickey appeared on an Italian talk show and complained that he was “broke”, and it’s all Bobby D’s fault for cock blocking him out of a role in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming movie The Irishman. Mickey says that De Niro refuses to work with him because he “took him to school” on the set of Angel Heart, and De Niro was acting like a diva. Apparently, De Niro wouldn’t let Mickey speak to him or touch him. So now instead of looking him in the face, Mickey looks “right through his asshole.” PAGING RYAN MURPHY. We need this to be the focus of next season of Feud.

Even though Mickey’s the one with the Irish name, De Niro’s Italian ass will be playing the title character in The Irishman. Page Six reports:

“Marty Scorsese, great director, he wanted to meet me for a movie with Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Chris Walken and Robert De Niro,” Rourke said. “The casting person told my manager that Robert De Niro said he refused to work with me in a movie.”

“He don’t forget what happened 20 years ago,” he added, “because they have a saying, ‘I took him to school’ before no other actor.”

The beef started on the set of Angel Heart, where De Niro (now 76) plays the devil (moving under the pseudonym Louis Cyphre, get it lol), and Mickey (now 67) plays a private detective who has spooky Halloween sex with Denise Huxtable.

“When I was in school studying to be an actor, I looked up to him like Marlon Brando, Al Pacino,” Rourke said, noting that he introduced himself on the set.

But immediately, Rourke says, he was snubbed by his idol.

“About five minutes later, [De Niro] comes over he said, ‘I think it’s better if we don’t talk because of characters in the movie. It’s better if we don’t say hello, talk or anything.’ ”

Rourke added: “It hurt my feelings a little bit ’cause I looked up to him.”

“The Wrestler” star added that their rift festered while filming scenes for the Alan Parker film, including an alleged incident where Rourke said De Niro refused to be touched by his co-star.

Producers and casting agents on The Irishman deny Mickey was ever under consideration for a part. But Mickey knows what’s really up. He’s sure he didn’t get an audition because Bobby D’s a punk.

“Now I don’t look up to him no more; I look through him,” Rourke said. “I came up from the shit. He doesn’t know that life. I lived that f–king life, so every time I look him in the face, I look right through his asshole.”

Here’s a scene from Angel Heart where you can actually feel the animosity between the two. I had previously just assumed it was what they call in the business, “ACTING!”.

Those Lee Press-On nails, though. Ooof. If Bobby and Mickey can ever look past their differences, they might realize just how much they have in common. For one thing, they both hate Donald Trump.

God I love Italian television. They are always doing the most. I once watched a cooking competition where they made all the contestants dress up as clowns.
