An Injured Christie Brinkley Will Be Replaced By Her Daughter On “Dancing With The Stars”

I have terrible news for the horny middle-aged dads who were hoping to watch 80s smoke show Christie Brinkley cha-cha-cha in nude illusion dancewear tonight on the 28th season premiere of Dancing with the Stars. No one will be telling Christie to break a leg before she shimmies out onto the dance floor, because she broke her arm during rehearsals, and had to drop out. Luckily, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook has generously stepped in to make sure the show goes on.
People magazine reports that Christie broke (pun very much intended) the news this morning, thanks to a statement released via Good Morning America.
“Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on Dancing with the Stars this season. Sailor joined the cast when I got mine…ouch somebody stop me, it hurts to laugh!”
If I had to guess who might mysteriously get injured and leave the show, I would have said Sean Spicer and Karamo Brown after accidentally spraining their wrists during an aggressive high-five.
65-year-old Christie says that her 21-year-old daughter Sailor will be stepping into her costume – literally – for the rest of the season while Christie recovers from her injury. Christie explained on Instagram that her arm broke into “1000 pieces,” and that she’ll need surgery and a few metal plates to keep it together. This is the first season in which it’s not known who the cast will be partnered with, so it’s not known who Sailor’s professional partner will be.
It must have happened recently, because Christie posted these pictures of herself in the same DWST costume just a few hours earlier.
GMA provided a video of the moment Christie did the emergency room slide in rehearsal.
EXCLUSIVE ballroom bombshell! @SeaBrinkley is out of @DancingABC before the season begins. She tells @Ginger_Zee about her injury and the moment she called her daughter Sailor to ask her to step in for mom coming up on @GMA! #DWTS https://t.co/vCu1GI9DWR pic.twitter.com/SBDoWy84Aq

This isn’t the first time a DWTS contestant has had to drop out due to injury. In the 8th season, both Jewel and Nancy O’Dell had to quit before the show premiered. Jewel fractured the tibias in both legs, while Nancy tore her knee cartilage. They were replaced with Holly Madison and Melissa Rycroft, respectively. But this is the first time a contestant has been replaced by their own kid. Sailor released a statement on her new gig, saying she’s doing it for her mom:
“I’m doing this mostly for my mom! I just want to make her happy and make her proud. She loved doing this, she loves dancing and she loves performing and getting hurt was her worst nightmare.”
Lori Loughlin should probably expect plenty of cold shoulder from her daughter Olivia Jade Giannulli today. Sailor Brinkley-Cook is so lucky. She gets to live vicariously through her mother’s dream by getting hooked up with a position she’s barely qualified for, and she doesn’t even have to sit through any stupid college classes for it!
