It’s crazy to think that earlier this year the world became outraged when Jussie Smollett claimed he was attacked in Chicago by MAGA-loving, bodybuilding, abominable snowmen, because let’s not forget it was colder than Queen Elsa’s ass back in January. But once all the pieces of the puzzle stopped adding up, police accused Jussie of staging the racist hate crime for attention. Jussie was initially charged for faking it all, but then all charges were mysteriously dropped. The City of Chicago then demanded that Jussie pay $130,000 for what they spent on police overtime and other costs while investigating. Jussie refused, and so they sued. Now in a last ditch effort to keep Jussie from paying up, his legal team is blaming the police department for even investigating the alleged attack in the first place.
According to The Chicago Sun Times Jussie’s lawyer, William J. Quinlan, is trying his best to glamour the court into believing it’s not Jussie’s responsibility to pay for anything because if the cops didn’t believe him they should have just shooed him away and never looked into it. He’s also adding a few dashes of Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx into this stew of stupidity since she was the one who dropped the charges against Jussie.
“My client from the beginning has maintained his innocence and disputed the city’s allegations…it’s going to be very difficult for the city to prevail in making a case my client should pay for overtime for a case ultimately dismissed by the state’s attorney.
“It’s ridiculous and a stretch to require him to do so.”
Quinlan claims that although Jussie maintains the attack was real when he filed the report, he had no idea that the police would spend so much of their time and resources to find his alleged attackers. And for that reason alone he shouldn’t be held accountable for the cop’s investigation.
“We contend the city is wrong,” Quinlan said of the city’s assertion that Smollett should have known the police would log nearly 2,000 hours in overtime trying to resolve the case. “ … The mere fact somebody filed a police report doesn’t presume the investigation will be done and certainly not to the extent of what the city is claiming.”
Judge Virginia Kendall will rule on whether or not this mess goes to trial next month but I can’ even lie, this is some real slick ass lawyering right here. These cats are like the guy who stabs someone then says,”It ain’t my fault you’re bleeding! Why do you have so much blood?!” If Jussie’s lawyers can pull this off, then they should immediately be inducted into the Bullshit Hall of Fame, because this truly is some bullshit.
