Sebastian Maniscalco Opened The MTV VMAs And It Didn’t Go Over Well
“Jeff Lewis hosted the VMAs?” is a question you might be asking yourself, but that’s comedian Sebastian Maniscalo. I have literally no idea who Sebastian Maniscalco is. And neither did 99.97% of the 2019 MTV VMA audience–one or two of those young people was watching from a room with their Italian uncle who pointed at the screen and said: “Hey, I know him! That guy’s funny!” Well that person’s uncle is the only person who thought Sebastian was funny because he got dragged for his opening monologue.
I knew that Sebastian was going to be a mess on those MTV VMAs when I saw the commercials for the show and it was all about how he didn’t recognize who the artists were. If there’s something that young people find funny: it’s an older man who doesn’t understand literally anything about them! The thing is, Sebastian one of 2018’s highest paid comedians–so clearly someone likes him? Just not the youth!
Sebastian stepped out onto that stage in front of all of those 18-25 year olds in the audience and the 15-35 year olds at home and he roasted them. Sebastian talked shit about safe spaces, getting triggered, young people using their phones too much, young people getting too many trophies for participation… I mean… he hit all the notes!
So of course, Twitter had thoughts:
Sebastian Maniscalco making “millennial” jokes to a room full of millennials who have no idea who the fuck he is is going over as well as you’d think. #VMAs pic.twitter.com/vNNdzAOrVR

Can’t wait till tomorrow when Sebastian Maniscalco tweets “people didn’t like me because I wasn’t PC” when it‘s actually because he isn’t funny.

Sebastian Maniscalco kicked off the #VMAs with a sneering, kids-nowadays diatribe about trigger warnings, only to see the night spin out into a world-straddling three-hour pansexual fantasia of self-love and acceptance. Here's hoping he finds a safe space before the night is out.

Meanwhile, the Baby Boomers lived for his millennial dragging:
I'm hearing #Sebastianmaniscalco offended a lot of ppl with his joke about safe spaces. That is awsome, I hate to break it to you kids, but life has no safe spaces.

For those asking me to rip him.
You got the wrong guy!
I think @SebastianComedy is killing it!
Most of you fkrs sh*t down your leg when you have to actually talk on the phone instead of text!
This dude is crushing it in front of millions on live TV!#Sebastianmaniscalco#VMAs— JimmyFromBoston (@JimmyinBoston) August 27, 2019
I don’t know who at MTV is friends with Sebastian, but a bigger question is how the rest of them were convinced that young people would enjoy those jokes? They would have liked it better if he got up there and reminded the youth that school starts next week!
Here’s Sebastian’s opener, and the comments are disabled on it, which is always a sign you made a good choice with your content, MTV:
