John Travolta Presented Taylor Swift’s MTV VMA To Drag Queen Jade Jolie
This year was the 10th anniversary of the time Kanye West jumped on stage at the MTV VMAs and snatched Taylor Swift’s award out of her hands. It’s also been five years since John Travolta let everyone know he had no clue who Idina Menzel was. Well, John Travolta decided to combine the two legendary award show train wreck moments into one last night when he took the award meant for Taylor Swift, and tried to put it in the hands of Taylor Swift’s drag queen lookalike.
John Travolta was there because he’s got a movie to promote, although I wouldn’t be surprised if the stunt queens at MTV brought him in because they knew there was a 78% chance he’d fuck up and get some much-needed attention. And yeah, he fucked up in the way only John Travolta could.
John, along with Queen Latifah, presented the award for Video Of The Year, which went to Taylor’s video for You Need To Calm Down. John was given multiple opportunities to correctly identify who Taylor Swift is. For example, she opened the show with You Need To Calm Down (while giving you the baddest girl at BYU doing Gaultier-era Madonna for Halloween).
Then when Taylor won the award for Video Of The Year, she gave us some classic “Who, ME?!?” surprised face.

Not to mention that she had already won the Video For Good award (she appeared on stage while Todrick Hall accepted the award on everyone’s behalf). And she was wearing the loudest jacket known to eyes. So basically, it was easy to spot Taylor Swift. And yet, when the time came for John Travolta to give Taylor the award for Video Of The Year, he went to hand it to RuPaul’s Drag Race season 5 alumnus Jade Jolie. Jade has done Taylor drag before; she did Taylor in the 5th season Snatch Game, and she represented the drag version of Taylor in the video for You Need To Calm Down.

Jade didn’t win her episode of Snatch Game, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t do a decent Taylor Swift.
Maybe John just wanted it to look like he had no idea who Taylor Swift was, especially since Taylor pushed a lot of people to sign her Equality Act petition during her opening performance. I mean, that’s one way to stay out of trouble with the alleged homophobes of Scientology. “Taylor Swift? I’m not familiar with her, or that bop of a song You Need To Calm Down. And Jade Jolie? The inventor of Alyssa Edwward’s iconic backrolls insult? Nope, never heard of her.”
