Taylor Swift Might Have Dragged Calvin Harris On Her New Album, But Definitely Dragged Trump In An Interview

August 23, 2019 / Posted by:

After what felt like the longest, most pastel-colored promotional tour, Taylor Swift finally released Lover, her first album since splitting with Big Machine. I’m sure her fans have already downloaded it 13 times each in an attempt to really stick it to her #1 enemy Scooter Braun (we’ll get to Scooter in a bit, because of course he’s still involved here). We’ll also get to Donald Trump too, who might actually have just knocked Scooter off the top spot on her shit list.

We already knew that Lover would contain a wannabe LGBTQ anthem and an ode to her possible fiancé. But it wasn’t all love. The internet thinks some of the old ex-dragging Taylor slipped into Lover in a song that might possibly be about Calvin Harris.

Taylor and Calvin broke up in 2016, and eventually squared off in what was to be one of Taylor’s messier breakups. They fought over a songwriting credit, and then Calvin called Taylor a manipulator on social media, and Taylor slapped back by quickly hooking up with Tom Hiddleston. Then Calvin released a song that people assumed was about Taylor, and later recorded a song with Katy Perry, her then-enemy. The following year, Taylor released Reputation, and it was assumed that’s when she might strike back. But she may have waited.

BuzzFeed News examined the album’s first song I Forgot That You Existed, and they think it’s all about Calvin. That’s a fitting title, considering most of us had probably forgotten that they dated. Here are a couple lyric samples that BuzzFeed has submitted as evidence.

How many days did I spend thinking
‘Bout how you did me wrong, wrong, wrong
Lived in the shade you were throwing
‘Til all of my sunshine was gone, gone, gone

Your name on my lips, tongue-tied
Free rent, living in my mind

Got out some popcorn
As soon as my rep started going down, down, down
Laughed on the school yard
As soon as I tripped up and hit the ground, ground, ground

Would’ve been right there, front row
Even if nobody came to your show

Here’s the song, which sounds like every royalty-free song used in YouTube makeup tutorials.

BuzzFeed points out that the part about her suggesting he was living rent-free in her mind might be a reference to when Calvin Harris said on social media that he was “FREE” from Taylor after it was reported she’d moved on to Tom Hiddleston. They also suggest that the lyric about going to his show is pretty clear evidence she’s talking about an ex that’s in the music industry. She’s already written songs about John Mayer, Harry Styles, and Joe Jonas. She’s even written revenge songs about musicians she hasn’t dated. So by process of bitter white girl elimination, Calvin is the one one left.

BuzzFeed reached out to Taylor’s people to see if they’d confirm, and they didn’t get back. Calvin Harris also hasn’t said anything about being the rumored subject of the latest song in Taylor’s “OMG my ex is the worst!” collection. But he did post an Instagram picture showing that there are plenty of people who came to his show.

I’m sure Taylor is disappointed in Calvin’s lack of effort. He could have easily captioned that picture, “Glad you’re not here, SO THERE.” But moving on to people who really don’t want to end up as the subject of a Taylor Swift song, UsWeekly says Scooter Braun decided to play nice and publicly congratulate Taylor on her album. I assume he did so while gritting his teeth and picturing all the money he makes from owning her masters.

I’m sure Taylor would love to hop on Tumblr and explain, point by point, how Scooter’s message is actually secretly-coded bullying, but her anger is currently directed at Trump. Taylor spoke with The Guardian, and she says that Trump is an autocrat who is gaslighting the American people. Kid Rock is going to love this:

The 29-year-old songwriter said she began feeling conflicted about what the US stood for when “all the dirtiest tricks in the book were used and it worked.” The Pennsylvania-born musician described the atmosphere in her home country as “gaslighting the American public into being like, ‘If you hate the president, you hate America.'”

“We’re a democracy – at least, we’re supposed to be – where you’re allowed to disagree, dissent, debate. I really think that he thinks this is an autocracy.”

Taylor added that she would have absolutely endorsed Hillary Clinton (had Taylor not been on a public time-out), and that she feels “really remorseful” for not speaking up and letting everyone know which side she was on. She also confirmed she’s “obviously” pro-choice.

Trump hasn’t tweeted about Taylor’s comments. I bet he can’t wait to tell her that she’s wrong, SAD, and that of course he’s running an autocracy.

Taylor Swift is clearly not a LOVER of the truth. I said I would bring millions of auto jobs back to America, and here we are: ten billion new auto jobs! Four trillion new cars – beautiful leather interiors, heated seats. Cars are the future sweety, look it up.
