Karamo Brown Deletes Twitter After Backlash For Defending Sean Spicer On “Dancing With The Stars”

Karamo Brown really did not think it through before he defended Sean Spicer–noted liar and former press secretary for the Chosen One  Donald Trump. While Sean really appreciated the support at normalizing a divisive political agent appearing on a dancing competition as though he’s an entertainment celebrity, Karamo is not really feeling any of the benefits of being nice to Spicey. Which is weird, because doesn’t being overly polite–even to those who don’t deserve it–always lead to positive results? It doesn’t?! Oof, don’t tell my fellow Canadians…

The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Sean about the backlash from ABC casting him on Dancing with the Stars. He’s excited and hopes it will be a “politics-free zone.” Yes, the man who is famous exclusively for his politics, wants a politics-free zone.

Host Tom Bergeron sort of dragged the decision to cast Sean, and Sean talked about that and his hopes for a clean slate from the public.

“I hope it will be a politics-free zone. My hope is that at the end of the season, Tom looks back on this and realizes what a great example it was of being able to bring people of really diverse backgrounds together to have fun with each other, engage in a real civil and respectful way and maybe show millions of Americans how we can get back to that kind of interaction.”

But Sean says he’s going to continue his political work during the show which he wants to be politics-free:

“I’ve got two business that have gotten off the ground successfully, and timing-wise, it was a great opportunity to do something completely different that I thought would be really fun… I’m not going to get into contract specifics, but they’re well aware of my job and what my companies do. There’s nothing I’m stopping or giving up.”

Sean does political consulting for Republicans and is an adviser to the pro-Trump super PAC (rich people whose donations sway politics) America First.

ABC only said this about the backlash:

“We’ve got a great and diverse cast. We are excited about the season.”

Meanwhile, OUT reports that Karamo had to deactivate his whole Twitter account and removed comments from his Instagram after he defended the guy who was the mouthpiece for a very anti-LGBTQ President.

After going on a blocking spree of LGBTQ activists who were calling him out, Karamo decided he maybe shouldn’t have defended and normalized Sean Spicer. Who’d of thought? Karamo explained:

“A trained social worker and my first instinct is always to sit down and have a conversation. But I understand how my comments could lead people to believe that I don’t understand the gravity of the situation. The personal is political… I’m reminded of it daily as a gay man of color. I know that representation matters–that it can affect change. I see you & I hear you. I’m bringing my personal message of love, equity & inclusion to the dance floor. I want it to eclipse & triumph over divisiveness & hatred.”

That apology I guess wasn’t enough, because a few hours later, his account was gone and his comments on Insta were too. His co-star on Queer EyeBobby Berk, explained that maybe Karamo’s foot entered his mouth because of media training:

“Over and over [we were told] to not talk smack about anyone in an interviews and to try to be as nice as possible. When being backed in a corner about voicing his opinions about @seanspicer Karamo’s media training kicked in as we are trained to do… Shame on you ABC for now making this beloved show political by casting one of the biggest liars who has ever been. It’s called ‘Dancing with the STARS’ and the fact that you’re calling him a star is disgusting.”

But not disgusting is his friend and co-star defending Sean Spicer? Okay. And if you really think this is a one-time flub, see these tweets from Ira Madison III, co-host of the podcast Keep It.

I mean this goes to show you: when the gays turn on you, we turn hard–we bring out all the receipts. Lindsay Lohan better hope we forget she supports Donald Trump if she wants her new album to sell… I mean, we won’t and it won’t sell but… she can hope?
