Elton John Came To Prince Harry And Duchess Meghan’s Defense For Using Private Jets
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are always on the British press’ shit list, but they were really on it this weekend over their use of private planes. The British press pulled receipts for Harry and Meghan’s recent private jet travel, which some think is hypocritical, considering how vocal they are about climate change and environmentalism. But another voice has emerged, and the one yelling “Leave Harry and Meghan aloooone, you wankers!” here is longtime family friend Elton John.
Harry and Meghan started catching shit for their private air travel after he spoke at Camp Google in Sicily about climate change. Harry took a private jet to and from Sicily, and stayed on a super yacht. Right after, he and Meghan flew private with Archie to Ibiza for her birthday. Not long after that, they hopped a private plane and flew to Nice, France. The Daily Mail pointed out that it was their third private jet flight in eight days, and that private jets put out seven times more emissions per person than a commercial flight.
Harry and Meghan’s trip to France was estimated to have had a carbon footprint of just over three tons (the carbon footprint of an average person in the UK is 13 tons a year).
So between the frequency of their private jet use, their time spent on vacation, and the money spent on all that travel, things didn’t look great for Harry and Meghan. Elton John decided to clarify some of the details on Twitter about Harry and Meghan’s trip to France. According to him, The Daily Mail were missing some key details. Specifically, they were visiting Elton at his home, the jet was his, and every effort was made to offset that carbon footprint.

I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis.

To explain Carbon Footprint, it’s an organization that attempts to offset the damage you’re doing to the Earth. For example, Elton and David Furnish added up how many emissions would be made when they sent their jet to pick up Harry, Meghan, and Archie. They then called up Carbon Footprint, who gave Elton a few options for how to offset that carbon. Tree planting in the UK would cost $146.19 ($16.24 per ton). $79.33 ($8.81 per ton) could go towards the general “Americas Portfolio” which include a variety of environmental projects.
So Elton’s jet made the Earth cry, but he also provided a hanky to help dry its tears. Still, I’m sure The Daily Mail will spin this news in their own special way. I’m thinking a front-page article titled:
HYPOCRITE HARRY AND DEMANDING MEGHAN MOOCHING OFF TAXPAYERS AND THEIR RICH FRIENDS TO SUBSIDIZE THEIR JET-SETTING LIFESTYLE
