Taylor Swift’s Rumored Engagement-Teasing Song Is Out

August 16, 2019 / Posted by:

Taylor Swift might currently be engaged to her British actor boyfriend of three years Joe Alwyn. And Swifties think that she let it be known in her song Lover with the lyrics (which she teased in her Vogue interview): My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue/All’s well that ends well to end up with you. That made the Swifties run to their conspiracy boards to piece the evidence together to form a theory that Taylor was dropping a hint that she was engaged. Today they’re probably circling wildly with red markers and screaming “SEE?!?!?“. Because the song is out and there’s more hints.

In the lyric video for Lover, Taylor doesn’t specifically address Joe by name, but come on – who else could she be talking about? She’s not angrily ripping them a new one, so it’s not about one of her exes. The song itself sounds like something your aspiring singer-songwriter friend would write after hearing Neil Young’s Harvest for the first time at Starbucks.

Even if it’s not a song about Taylor’s possible engaged status, it definitely sounds like she wants it to be played at every single 2020 summer millennial wedding. Take that, Ed Sheeran and Thinking Out Loud. Taylor shall once again reign supreme in the hearts of Pinterest brides across the nation!

Here’s a sampling of some lyrics that sound like hints being dropped:

I’ve loved you 3 summers now, honey
But I want them all

Ladies and gentlemen will you please stand
With every guitar string scar on my hand
I take this magnetic force of a man

Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close?
Forever and ever

Buzzfeed points out that since the video is 3 minutes and 41 seconds long, 341 might be a hidden number message by Taylor (reverse it and you get 143, which could represent the number of letters used in I LOVE YOU). The bridge of the song is also a play on wedding vows.

Then again, maybe Taylor isn’t as predictable as we know she is. What if this song isn’t really about Joe Alwyn, but Karlie Kloss? One of the lyrics is: “We could let our friends crash in the living room/This is our place, we make the call.” A rumor popped up this week that Taylor had cut Karlie out of her life because Karlie was letting her friends crash at Taylor’s place without Taylor’s permission. I guess we’ll have to wait until Taylor releases the official video to see if it features a scene of Taylor getting her locks changed.
