Andy Dick Was Attacked And Knocked Out In New Orleans

I’m sure anyone with even the vaguest knowledge of Andy Dick is thinking, “Okay, what did he do this time.” Except for Jon Lovitz, who is probably thinking, “Hmmm…I don’t remember being in New Orleans.” But Andy Dick didn’t see this one coming.

Nola.com reports that Andy Dick had just finished a performance at a club in the French Quarter early last Saturday when he was sucker punched outside the venue. Andy, who was outside meeting with fans, was about to get into an Uber when an unknown person walked up and punched him dead in the face. Andy’s head hit a parked motorcycle before hitting the pavement, where he laid unconscious. Here’s video of Andy’s altercation, and yeah – that’s a sucker punch, alright.

Someone called paramedics, who took Andy to a nearby hospital where he was inspected for a possible brain bleed in the intensive care unit.

Afterward, Andy tells Nola.com that he was “knocked out 100% for fifteen minutes.”

The promoter for One Eyed Jacks, the club Andy performed at before he was punched, says that everyone was surprised Andy got punched like that, because he was on his best behavior that night. They add that “some of his shows are a little wilder. Every show is different. This show was mostly story telling. He didn’t disrespect anyone.

Andy was supposed to perform on Saturday night, but his performance was cancelled. On Sunday he showed up to a scheduled performance in a wheelchair, but it was just to say hello to fans.

The New Orleans Police Department opened an investigation into the situation, and it sounds like maybe Andy wasn’t as well behaved as was reported. Police tracked down the man in the video, and his name is David Hale. David admitted he was the one who punched Andy, and claimed he had good reason to. David claims that Andy allegedly cornered him inside the club, leaned in close, and grabbed David’s junk. When David got upset about it, Andy allegedly winked at him.

It actually gets messier, if you can believe that. Andy performed that evening with a guitarist named Paris Dylan. Paris tells Nola.com that David Hale knew Andy and was in the green room before the show. Paris says that he believes Andy once tried to date David’s sister a while ago (uh oh) and that the situation between them wasn’t good.

David was arrested for two counts of battery (second degree and simple). One, for punching Andy Dick. And two, for punching a random person who tried to chase after David after he punched Andy (David popped that dude in the left eye). David’s bail was set at $15,000 yesterday. Andy’s team denies that Andy ever got handsy with David. Andy also apparently doesn’t remember much from that night, which could be an excuse or the result of David knocking his brains around.

When I first read that Andy Dick was knocked out in New Orleans, I kind of figured there might be an element of yuckiness to it all. Maybe not “crotch grabbing” yuckiness (AGAIN) but yuckiness, nonetheless. It’s a good thing I didn’t put any money on this situation, because I would have confidently bet $20 that the punch started after a drunken Andy stared at a woman’s tits and asked if she’d laissez his bon temps rouler.
